Tried on People app and Phone app / history (going to contact and long pressing, the “Delete” function is greyed out (not available).
Switching between SIM cards in settings does not make any difference. Only one SIM-card has ever been in use.

So you have contacts synchronized from a server? Is it for all contacts or for only some?
I think it’s not possible to erase them on SIM.
Go to System-Settings, Select Apps-Tab, Select People-App, Disable SIM-Contacts, go back to People-App, SIM-Contacts doesn’t shown anymore.
u import this contacts from some sim and u remove this sim
go back sim w/ this contacts and u can remove it from phone memory
What server? No - switched the SIM card from Jolla One initially. Then created a backup of “all” to a SD card. Inserted it and sure, all is there. But there is also much unwanted crap i would (and i’m sure many others) would like to just delete with “delete”. But the “Delete” is greyed out.
This device with SFOS was not tested in most basic functions, it seems as earlier bug reports (even the mobile network is not working, people are supposed to carry their old Jolla one sharing the WiFi to get any internet data working, such as F-Droid).
Thanks, let me try this. Reporting back…
There is no “Disable SIM-Contacts” in sight
Why is this made so damn hard … Deleting a particular contact from contacts should be a basic breeze IMO.
Ok, this option is disabled for you, that means you have imported it before, there was a dialog asking and it seems you pressed yes.
Try disabling SIM-Card or remove it physically and then try to delete it again, otherwise i’m out of ideas, because this never happen on my 4 used SailfishOS-Devices.
Could you be more specific, please? At this point, my head is spinning.
If you’d (or someone else) could explain this like i’m 5.
Or should i just reset the phone to it’s manufacture vanilla standards with SIM card in a specific slot (?). I have no idea why it should matter though. It’s just a physical SLOT i insert to the phone (without even a SD-card). Why should it matter?
Or could there be some terminal command to give su rights? To give possibility to JUST DELETE the unwanted contacts
I just tested the ‘Show SIM contacts’ setting, and it is functioning as expected.
SIM contacts vanish if it is turned off.
But indeed, if they are/were imported using the corresponding function, they can not be deleted using the context menu on long press.
Not sure whether that is a regression or has always been this way.
Workaround: in People, use the Pulley menu to ‘Select Contacts’, tap those you want to delete, and hit the trashcan button.
Where is this “Show SIM contacts” setting? Look above pic; there is no such thing.
Look harder. Third toggle from the top.
I’m SURE i tried this earlier! Why did it work now? Technically, i would love to know
“Look harder” —well here’s another “thing” to be solved i suppose (if that was the issue). Like i stated; i definitely tried this earlier 4 days ago (as i am familiar with SFOS from 2013) …
Thank You very much though. The problem still remains; contacts should be able to be removed the way it’s MEANT TO BE in SFOS.
Absolutely, there’s no reason why they should be greyed out - if they’re visible, it should be possible to delete them. Although probably no one has run into this bug before because storing contacts on the SIM card has become very rare (for good reasons).
Exactly. This is CRITICAL. (Not me ranting, as some other sailors suggested in the other thread) … Let’s face it. Let’s FIX IT. It surely is REPORTED.
Jolla?
Lets say this isn’t high priority, there are surely other bugs that have to be sorted out first (reset-device-option, video-recording…etc)
Well, as suggested in that other thread, to file a real bug report, please fill in the form you get when creating a bug report with as many details as possible. If you remove the form and just type freeform thoughts, it’s a lot harder to ‘file’ the bug. I know it can be annoying to fill in details that are quite obvious, but it still makes for a better, clearer bug report.
(And I agree with @fingus, I wouldn’t hold my breath on this being fixed anytime soon, unless by accident. No one uses SIM contacts anymore.)
