“No one uses sim contacts anymore”, what do you mean? I do. Many do! What is this! Jolla C2 is not a particurlary modern gadget; video does not work. Telegram, whatsapp, nor any other Android app does not work.
Mobile network carrier connection does not work! This is a known bug on mobile internet not working. I mean; WHAT are Jolla fellows doing all this time? Basic functionallity does not work. One has to carry the Jolla One in the pocket (sharing the wifi via SIM through that 2013 gadget) to get basic functionality (such as internet) working. F-Droid, Telegram, Aurora Store, Firefox.
Asking again; what am i missing here, if the Jolla crew got it all worked out?
Yeah, agreed. Let’s get mobile network carrier connectivity working first. We did not buy this phone to carry the old Jolla One in our pocket. With that SIM card (sharing wifi).
To get anything reasonable working? TWO phones now? Some person said in this forum: “it’s inconvenient”. No: it’s a show stopper. You take a phone with you, and you should now expect to carry ANOTHER gadget with you to get Telegram working! (Fernscreiber, or whatever that is just sub par).
I feel you, but look at the bright side, you are one of the lucky ones, some of us received bricked phones from the start. We all knew that it will be in a state that requires big improvements, it’s a community phone. Let’s try together to improve it. You did already your part, to report the bugs. Let’s give them some time. I know is hard, cause looking back, there are still bugs since ever, never solved. As @explicit mentioned they are a small company with small company mentality. As soon as there will be a functional Linux alternative they will lose also the few fans/customers that they still have. Let’s wait for the moment.
What in the name of Ukko are you talking about? “They” - so “we” - will not lose ANYONE if these simple issues are fixed NOW! I mean c’mon: how come it is cumbersome to delete even a contact from a contact list (!?)
No, the only people who do are those using 20+ year old ‘dumb’ phones, or those who are just migrating from a ‘dumb’ to a ‘smart’ phone.
A SIM contact can’t even store the full length of an average Finnish name, let alone all of the extra bells and whistles that have been added to contact details over the years, like birthdays, social media accounts, and so on. In fact, a SIM contact can’t even have two phone numbers saved to it, so if you want to have both someone’s private number and their work number saved to your SIM, you need to save them as separate contacts, which is again made more annoying by the short and hard character limit in SIM contact names.
Nowadays, people save their contacts to their phone or even a cloud storage service (or for Android/iOS users, directly onto Google/Apple’s servers).
If you are talking about contacts stored in your SIM-card, just disable showing them in People app? Go to Settings -> Applications-tab -> People and there uncheck the Show SIM-card contacts automatically and, if you need (some of) those contacts, use the import tool (found from same configuration page) to import them to your phone and now you can delete the contacts you don’t need anymore.
The problem is that I have already removed the SIM card and the contacts are still displayed. Inserting it again does not help, delete contacts is grayed out.
Check those contacts if there is some kind of linking action pointing to the old SIM-card. If you find any, after removing the linking you should be able to get rid of the contact.
I did the following: I put the SIM card in my old Nokia 800 Tough and deleted all SIM contacts. I put the SIM card back into the C2 and deactivated the switch “Show SIM-card contacts automatically” and restarted the phone, then reactivated the switch. All contacts are now gone.
