So a new GUI concept is needed where the user has all touch and swipe options reachable with the thumb in the (vertical) middle of the screen and (horizontal) more on the left side for left hand operation and more on the right side for right hand operation of the device. So a completely new concept is needed different to the existing one, as a selectable mode.
3cm shorter than the 10 series? Bullcrap!
Try 10-11mm. Compare Sony Xperia X Performance vs. Sony Xperia 10 III vs. Sony Xperia 10 V - GSMArena.com
If people can’t at least be truthful about the size difference, how are we ever going to have a serious discussion about this?
Add to this the humongous chin and forehead - we can definitely afford to go closer to 6’’ without a substantial change in phone size. And surely phone dimensions and phone aspect ratio are the main things here? You can argue about reach too; but then the chin still counts.
In case you didn’t notice; resolution add clarity at a similar size of text. To a point of course, but we are not shooting over the goal on current phones.
Like these new concepts for e.g. eating or typing. Like using more than one hand?
This will never happen. We’re human after all. What sense makes having climbed down from the trees when you become ambidextrous again after a few thousand years? ![]()
This doesn’t work if you aren’t in the home or events view. If you have app open, then you have to swipe from the top/bottom.
But can you perform the app drawer swipe from bottom with same hand position as you use to close the app from the top corner?
This is all true of course, but if the market is not good for mini iPhones, why should it be better for mini Jolla phones? It’s just lower sales in general. This doesn’t mean that there are (in %) more people liking small screens.
If this would be true, than there would be a direct mapping, which would map Sailfish-loving users 1:1 to small-screen-loving users which I think will just not be the case (unfortunately)
In the past this didn’t use to exist and I never adopted the habit to use any of those, nor i don’t feel i’m missing out at all. I very rarely use the top menu, and in a majority of cases whatever other app i’d like to switch to is already running. The close gesture is the only top/bottom thing i use in-app. All in all, SFOS is really good at not requiring you to reach quite everywhere.
Yes, I can reach the cross
and open the drawer
with my thumb without changing hand position (screen is 6.3)
And can you lock the phone without pressing a button?![]()
Yes? Why not? (but why not use power button).
:some_other_silly_smiley:![]()
“So a new GUI concept is needed…”
hell, please not!!!
the GUI and gesture navigation within SFOS is top notch
Amen, fully agree (20char)
Seriously now: one should not operate a phone with one hand while driving a car with the other hand. ![]()
edit: asking for a new GUI was a joke!
How do I add my name to the pre-order list? ![]()
Its not about the market. A market doesn’t exist for SFOS. The market just buys an iOS or Android device.
The question is what you want to achieve with what you produce. You either side with ergonomics and synergy between hands, hw and sw or just copy what the big boys do hoping to gain something out of it while you are not in the same market as them and compromising the product by fitting it in something that wont work as good as it should.
Ie think of it as fitting a Ferrari V12 in an old Lada chassis.
I want that lada, and if you accelerate the sheer power of the engine just atomizes the rest of the car ![]()
There is one absolute for O: Hardware adaptation , memory handling. Each version os sailfish ( I have been onboard since 2014) has had problems with memory. Browser crash OOM, etc. I wan a system to run so that even if you have several programs open , swapping works 100% . Now mostly if a program opens an other progran , something happends sometimes ( oom kill) , maybe garbage collection process has also problems , hea ier usage results oom’s if heavy usage goes longer peruod, but still finally you have only twose same programs open. In my mind garbage/ memory management are foundation stones!
You will need a Lancia Thema and the V8 Ferrari Engine.
Same question here. I´d love to…
I don’t really agree with you. You are right that most people will just buy iOS or Android…
…but I thought about it like this: if you are already in a markte with not really many possible buyers (because as you said most people won’t by Sailfish anyway), then it’s not a good idea to make a product that even in the normal market the majority doesn’t want IF your goal is to get more people into your product. So if Jolla wants to get Sailfish to more people by providing a phone that is pre flashed, I think it doesn’t make sense to provide hardware that most people wouldn’t even want in the “normal” market.
This statement is debateable…
The people using it are all those around this community that know what it is. A bunch of thousands at best.
And those will probably buy any device on sale that can run it decently. For the rest its a no go from the start. It doesn’t run their favorite spyware.
TBH even for the geeks around here and their needs is not completely ready yet (as an OS).
