New Jolla phone battery charging issue

So I have a Jolla Phone from first batch, it was delivered somewhere in the beginning of August AFAIR. Few days ago the phone battery got discharged to 0 and device shutdown. After that I could not turn on device back again. I’ve charged the device for more than an hour and it would simply boot loop shutting down right after Jolla logo.

I’ve went into recovery mode, resetted the device to factory. Device booted, with only 8% of battery. Now, it won’t charge properly. While connected, the status gets constantly “reset”, as if cable was being plugged in back and forth. After over 24 hours of charging I was at something like 59%.

It’s unlikely to be a charger issue, as I’ve tried multiple ones, that otherwise work. And they did work with this phone before. My power bank which can show power draw fluctuates between 0 and 8W back and forth when this phone is connected.

So here’s a question: how likely is this software issue? Or is either my batter or chip responsible for power management busted?

And if it’s hardware, where to reach out to support of Jolla? Under their official Customer Care, they do not list new Jolla Phone as an option of a ticket.

A suggestion is to disconnect the contacts of the user-replaceable battery:

Leave it disconnected for 5–10 minutes. Then reconnect it and test it.

Do it at your own risk. Don’t do it if you’re not familiar with it.

Thanks for suggestion. I should have thought about it myself, unfortunately it did not help.

I guess your best bet is waiting for a battery charging bug fix.

Even you tried multiple chargers maybe they are same class

did you try some oldskool one and GaN2 or Gan3 type?

in my case none of GaN1 on PD port charging, or they not charging then charging in cycles but at max 200mA what sounds like your issue

I’m very glad that I bumped in to this bug report. The battery symptoms you describe are near identical to mine (but with an added USB charging crash ). By removing the battery I can sometimes get the device to indicate 56% of charge and the operation is very inconsistent. Sometimes the battery runs completely empty with out any notification.

Have you tried the Test tool CSD? It might show something about the battery/charging. It needs to be done in terminal but if this is challenging we can go trough the process in steps.

No, not even Dev mode is needed for CSD. Just tap 5 times on Sailfish version in Settings.

Flags as green on both battery and charging.
