Thanks, it works great :).
I suggest to organize this list better, e.g. using an opendoc, etc. or editable table page. As I have seen in this posts requests, clarifying posts, questions, etc. - all categories are mixed…
For me handling an reading this thread is not very efficient and also not clear, so that it doesn’t achieve the goal mentioned by the author of post #1 later (create a single wishlist for the users so that the devs can have better overview).
I am newby, doing my fist setup i miss
(if I see other stuf, i’ll update the list)
That’s normal. (20 chars)
Since NextGen Jolla might be somewhat around the corner:
eSIM support would be nice
I’m running licenced Sailfish OS on the Sony Experia 10 using Dual SIM, so the SD slot(located at SIM inside the phone) becomes unavailable for direct usage.
The suggested companies of Dropbox/OneDrive simply cannot be trusted with personal data, and I don’t have a Nextcloud instance, therefore unable to perform a backup with ease before running updates.
Would like to see an option/detection in backup settings to select USB-C storage device.
Agree, good idea! But isn’t it possible, as a workaround, to temporarely remove SIM2, insert a SD-card, do the backup to SD-card, then flip back and have backup on SD-card?
I just tried with a 1 TB Sandisc USB C SSD.
Step one:
Mount storage device
It’s the last one in the picture above.
step two:
choose backup device
There you are.
About backup in settings, it would be good to have to be able to set which data user wants to include or not. For example, I backup Pictures and Videos another way so I don’t want them in the system backup. And on privacy oriented OS should be option to encrypt or password protect the archive with backup.
check My Backup app, it seems to allow you to include more data for backup, however, you need to know which folders to include in the backup tar. large volume data like pics and videos were not included directly in the backup or that was my impression?
Does someone known if the Nextcloud integration works with owncloud or opencloud?
If it worked with owncloud indefinite scale, chances are it will work with opencloud. If not, not.
It used to work that way years ago, and it was much better. I can’t remember why it was ever changed.
They are, unfortunately - backups take ages because they include all of your photos and videos, so it actually discourages you from making regular backups because it’s literally backing up for hours on end. And don’t get me started on restoring from those colossal backup files!
There is a solution/workaround if you just put all of your photos and videos on the SD card and tell the Camera to save to the SD card as well. But a microSD is significantly easier to lose than a phone, and there’s probably a minor drop in performance if you have all of your media files on a microSD instead of on the internal memory.
They are definitely not included by the default backup function.
The UI even tells you so.
If they are included in your case, you must have configured that yourself - e.g. using the MyBackup app.
The UI tells you that are included as Galerie. I don’t have installed MyBackup app. I used it on SFOS 4.x but not now on 5.0 (fresh install). Workaround is rename these two folders (Pictures and Videos) before backup and after backup rename them back.
Anything included by MyBackup is listed as ‘MyBackup’ in the backup settings. Gallery is most definitely included like Kuba77 said, and has been since day 1, which is why the change (was it in 2.0? 3.0?) to no longer allow selecting which categories of things you wanted to back up was so baffling.
Ah! I believe there’s different defaults for Local Storage (SD) and Cloud (NC in my case).
As I have always used Nextcloud backup I wasn’t aware of the differences.
Which imho is still not very nice. If you don’t have a SD-Card you don’t have an official way to back up your pictures. If you lose your phone, all pictures are gone, no matter how often you backuped. If I include the gallery folder via MyBackup, the backup on my Nextcloud doesn’t work. So I do backup my pictures at the moment with Syncthing.
Shouldn’t this thread be a meta-thread for other feature requests? Once all feature requests have been listed and linked here (1 reply == 1 feature request), users can vote to somehow “prioritise” them.
