New binaries / blobs for Xperia V and IV : What is happening actually?

It’s in this forum, somewhere. You can look it up - I haven’t go time to search it for you, just repeating what was said. One of the general concerns is that information is too spread about (which is probably why you’re asking me where this information is).

My 2p: no context, mate. I guessed you were frustrated (hence my update).

Sony indeed could be faster, and it would be a lot better to have your kind of feedback there (not here).
Like I said, Jolla is planning on providing an update, and if you read other threads, you’ll notice that folks have been working hard at it.

All in all, it depends on how long you can wait - if you need a phone right now, the 10 IV/V is probably not for you.

“Right now”.

I wonder if it was 2023 or even 2022 when Jolla had set a precedent of delivering amazingly good stuff for Xperias. It was a buyer-beware situation buying this phone blind, so even if not an unreasonable gamble, one that certainly has not paid off. One cannot predict the future based off the past, or something.

Yeah, no fault of theirs (afaiui) that we don’t have anything now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the answer for the 10iv and 10v is “never” instead of “by the time it’s too late”.

At some point people will want phones that work, be that something specwise inferior, or a community port, or another OS.

This would be a shame - I had a similar dance with the 10iii, although it materialised as a “usable phone” quicker than the iv/v.

FWIW, I’m waiting for the latest update, which ought to include how the community could help (there was info scattered around this topic, but I can’t find it any more). Maybe some of us can make this happen quicker? I don’t know, but remain hopeful.

Wow, I received my Xperia V already… so now I’m quite excited to get a working Sailfish OS version on it. From what I’ve gathered I probably should not install it yet.

Any news from Jolla when we could expect to have something working or a new version that works better?

Probably some days after Sony delivers blobs that works?

Make that months because Sony needlessly changed things too.
Said months are currently elapsing. I’d expect some news pretty soon.

If you are happy to have the device as a secondary one, it’s always good to get SFOS and feed back your perspective, but I get it if that’s too much and you prefer to enjoy/test its capabilities on Android first.

I’m not going to use Android on that phone (except to check that the hardware works).

I just try to avoid doing many installs of SailfishOS so to not waste my time. I mean if there comes new Sony blobs I guess it means I have to reinstall and set it up again. And I probably can’t use the phone right now as my daily driver, since camera doesn’t work (+ myriad other little things I forget).

Incorrect, but perhaps also insignificant.

You can reflash new blobs without touching your data, I’ve done it twice on my 10V

Ok nice… I’ll probably flash it then anyway. I have no use for Android phone anyway.

Blergh… my phone has bootloader lock even though the sales advert claimed it’s unlocked. So I guess I will wait for Jolla C3.

yea, ‘unlocked’ in ads means carrier unlocked, not bootloader unlock-able.
is it docomo branded by any chance? i used to buy those on purpose because they were cheaper (at least with the 10 II, XA2 and XZ2c) and use that service that let you crack the bootloader-unlock-no=>yes. i miss them, it was wild to buy tokens on the black-ish market for using a phone you own.

No, it’s not docomo branded. Just a regular common looking XQ-DC54. Oh well, I guess it’s pretty useless to try buying from these chinese vendors then, not knowing if it’s bootloader locked or not.

yea. just buy one with a good return policy that pays the return shipping. you can also ask the seller a question on most platforms, and they will usually answer. if they get it wrong, they are usually on the hook for the return shipping anyway, even if it is against their policy

Just posting to vent a bit - after waiting for soo long I see very little active development of the porting. mer-hybris repositories are quiet and I genuinely have lost hope and gave up on getting a working 10V image. If that happens before Christmas it would be a miracle but in reality I don’t expect it to happen at all at this point. Luckily my 10III still works fine but I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Only confirmations of the outstanding work for a functioning port rather than some sort of schedule. Personal guess/opinion focus will shift in the "new device” and 10IV/V will stay half baked.

I feel you. I’ve bought a V last summer, because I expected to get a fully functional image last fall. My X is falling apart and I really could use a replacement. I still have hope, but the communication from Jolla is lacking.

Let’s hope the summarization regarding the Xperia 10 IV/V comes soon and clarifies some things.

Well, fellow sufferers - the holidays are over, and neither Jolla nor Sony are moving. Time to sell your Xperia 10IV. It’s all sad.
