New binaries / blobs for Xperia V and IV : What is happening actually?

Umm… The holidays are long gone and they shed some light on the situation here: Sailfish Community News, 4th September 2025 - Open sourcing proceeding

There is zero new information there
All those things have already been said before.

I agree that the information isn’t much, but they adressed the situation enough for me atleast. Plus there hasn’t been any “official” status update before that in long time. That’s why I wondered why give up now. Ofc, everyone is free to do as they want.

Haven’t you heard? Jolla have joined the Paraphrasing Initiative 2025, to promote the usage of paraphrasing. They are trying it out on the 10V, where they are rewording the exact same status update (“sorry, nothing”) to sound different every time. Appears they’re gunning for first place this year.

Obviously, the issue is with Sony’s buggy binaries. Your sarcasm is not based. Jolla said they have submitted bug reports but it is up to Sony to fix the issues because no one else has the source code.

Do you know if Jolla submitted bug report about high battery drain on Xperia 10III? Which BTW lasts forever on Android! It’s been so many years and still no fix…

Android and AOSP are two different beasts.

The support for Xperia 10 IV/V has been announced 2023-12 or 2024-01. May last year we get an information that it’s done and soon we can get a full version of the os. we are “custommers” from Jolla. They are “selling” the product. When They know sony can deliver nothing just in time or with a small delay They should find an anothe partner like Reedem. I bought Xperia 10 V over an year ago and I don’t see any hope for a change. An example with battery on Xperia 10III is a nice example that the support for Xperia 10 IV/V will be not better

Well Jolla can only make announcements with information they have from Sony. If Sony over promises and under delivers of course it happens also in Jolla’s corner. Of course Jolla could message this more clearly, maybe they don’t want to straight throw Sony “under the bus”. 100% agree that it would in my mind make more sense to have official ports in HW where you have access to the blobs. But that is another topic.

One thing that I don’t really understand is why doesn’t Jolla build the port on top of lineage? There is a well maintained, complete port of lineage. No need to wait for Sony blobs then. I recall other porters using Lineage as a base for a port?

You are probably right regarding firmware and drivers, but most of AOSP is on GitHub.

As a side note: At the time of writing the latest changes in the Zambezi repository are about half an hour old. So consider this still a WIP.

Sure - it is WIP but the last commit was back in March. Also the latest commit is fixing a build error. i.e. no actual fixes related to bugs/functionality. Not sure if any of those fixes would show up in this repository though.

I wholeheartedly agree. You should just leave and let them die alone, as there are no other people using their OS or populating this forum.

Spreading nihilism and pro-corporate disinformation here too - well done, shill!

I am afraid your rants may be a bit off topic and could be flagged. Otherwise, I would encourage you to keep going to help put your other posts, which may seem valid on the surface, into context.

By this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone homebuild SFOS for their X10IV/V and it would work better. Do we know of cameras are disabled on sailfish or binaries level? I don’t think that question was ever asked.

If I recall correctly, in the past Jolla said the camera is disabled in the SFOS adaptation while they work on the Camera 2 API.

I did not even read the post of @deloptes because he is on my plonk list since ages but I know for certain you are so right.

As far as I know, Sony released two new versions of the binaries (for the 10 iv), the latest on 30th of May (v7a). Jolla must have tried to integrate them internally.

So why don’t they just release this version to show the community that there is some progress, even if it’s not yet perfect? Even a small thing like getting the earpiece to work would make me optimistic. This must be really something quite trivial to fix. If if still didn’t work, then I would agree it’s time to give up.

But as Jolla doesn’t release anything new, waiting for the perfect Sony binaries forever, we can’t check progress and can’t make reasonable decision what to do with our devices.

This is very frustrating and totally unnecessary.
