While experiencing the stillexisting SMS send crash bug, I noticed that the message that’s supposed to be sent both appears in the message history (with the retry button to the side) and as draft in the message entry.
PRECONDITIONS:
Crashing Messages app when sending an SMS (It seems writing longer messages is more prone to crash)
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Send with crash
Reopen Messages app
Find SMS copied to text entry and at the same time in history
I didn’t notice a pattern. Long SMS writing and sending mostly work properly for me.
It happened on XA2, X X and X 10 to me.
On X 10 I don’t remember that much crashes of the apps before 4.5. Not they happen a lot. Browser mostly. But others too. Sometimes even lipstick it seems.
Definitely happens on the Xperia 10 II, and used to happen on the Jolla Phone, too. Luckily in my experience the Messages crash doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, I always get the duplicate message: one in the text box, and one in the list saying it failed to send.
Sending “failed” also happends on my XA2 .18, with duplicate message too but without crashing.
IDK how to reproduce but it happens sometimes.
With no apparent reason, even with simple and short pure SMS messages.
This still seems to happen on XA2 running 4.6.0.13.
I have had a couple of crashes after I tap the Send button, also with short messages. Once restarted, the app shows two copies of the message: one unsent, one draft.
I wonder if a crash causes the message to be unsent and duplicated, or if a failure to send causes the crash.
Edit: Earlier in this thread there was a mention of incoming SMS interfering and potentially causing this. I don’t know if this has been the case for me, but will be on the lookout next time.
