On fresh flashed and set’ up SFOS 4.5.0.25 on a Xperia 10, it’s not possible to set up a GMX mail account.
On setup, i enter address and password, then proceed to account name and my name. Then appears endless spinning wheel and ‘E-mail allgemein Konto wird eingerichtet’ (general e-mail, account will be created) but this goes endless and no account is created.mail app fetches wrong server info and
to be continued…
As ohno says, set up manually and do refer to pop and imap addresses as laid out within your gmx account settings page, also check the box to allow jolla-email app to receive your mails
I have 3 running gmx accounts on my device, Xperia 10ii
No, I didn’t trust in automatic setup and always check manually.
Now in detail what I have done:
In Settings/Accounts/e-mail I create a new account.
Phone asks me for address and password.
Next, account name on the phone and something else.
Phone immediately starts communication.
Phone sets up wrong IMAP server, it should be imap.gmx.net, but it sets to pop.gmx.net.
Phone never asks me if I want to setup IMAP or POP!
Spinning wheel forever.
After correcting server settings, phone downloads old mails exactly one time and never again.
Every further attempt do do something on this account results in question for password.
Phone doesn’t remember the password.
On other accounts everything works fine.
So there are 2 core problems:
Wrong IMAP setup,
Forgets the password.
@ohnonot I checked the latest server setup information on GMX homepage, Thank you!
There is now a difference to my old files, it seems they made a change.
My old info for SMTP is mail.gmx.net/SSL/465 and this works like a charm on desktop computer and laptop! But on phone both don’t work, and as said, password always forgotten and re-entering necessary.
Always message from phone:
Account not logged in and One of the accounts needs maintenance
German: Konto nicht eingeloggt und Ein Konto benötigt eine Aktualisierung
How often shall I enter the password? Is it only stored permanently when all mails are downloaded successfully? This could maybe be the reason because there are abt. 1500 mails on the server but it downloaded only 557 mails and then stopped.
Edit: Set up my 3rd mail account successfully right now in a minute and works!
Whats wrong with GMX? Can it be that they try to do something nasty?
(considering to cancel GMX account…)
Be carefully. There are many players in this game. This begins at your side of the screen, then there are routers, cables, countries & tariffs, then the GMX server world, then the way back to your device and then to your side of the screen. Please check every part
I have to simplify my life.
2 accounts working like a charm,
GMX account often causes problems (especially arising mandatory 2FA authentication),
so GMX has to go.
That’s it.
I have always had problems with GMX, and several friends had problems with normal mail getting into spam folders, or not arriving at all. Not just from me.
Also their web interface used to be riddled with ads iirc?
I came to a final conclusion regarding GMX long ago…
No, it doesn’t work. I have decided to leave GMX and sent mails to 31 communication partners yesterday evening and told them to please use my other adress in future, that works like a charm on SFOS. (not mentioning the reason)
If you did, and entered all the correct details (NB username is sometimes the full email address, sometimes only the part before @) and it still did not succeed - then I guess it really is time to leave GMX behind. May I recommend mailbox.org or posteo.de. Also consider getting some form of eternal email redirect. It sucks to tell your contacts to use a new addresss from now on…
You know I only started watching Voyager’s later seasons a few days ago and I particularly like Seven of Nine (it sounded familiar and now I know why. This must sound very dumb to y’all).
Once you get over her Lara Croftian, erm, figure, she’s one of the best Star Trek characters ever.
