Is it known if it would it be possible to configure the privacy switch to perform another function, like entering “silence mode”? It may be more useful to some people.

Yes, many features will come, and you’ll even be able to do everything you can think of with that button. Rain, I asked this before. Initially, there will be 4 or 5 features, but later they will make the privacy button’s code open-source, and you’ll be able to customize it according to your needs.

Excellent. Thank you. I like the toggle switch on my current phone and it is good to know that I won’t lose that feature on the Jolla Phone.
Still, they will continue to call it a “privacy button” for marketing purposes, I suppose. I think that is a good decision, but the way I see it described makes me think of the privacy switches on the PinePhone. Hopefully marketing will improve later on.
From what I have seen on pictures there will be options, primarily to use it as a silence switch.
What I think it can’t do is turning off the background communication with adjacent cell towers entirely. Achieving that ability requires rather bespoke hardware I think.
@Jolla In the opening post you’ve given a rough timeline. Also there is the party scheduled for the first week of July. Could you share an update on schedule. How are things looking at the moment, are you able to keep the schedule and start deliveries in July?

The only rcs available in Australia is currently on android devices right? I couldn’t find any settings in iOS about rcs. Hence why mms would still be popular.
I am not sure. Rarely even touch an android device.
Well I still use it at least, and so do most of my friends. (Or Whatsapp/Signal)

Apparantly the cameras are made by Sony. So same issue as before?
I would consider buying a jolla Phone, but that was real downside on the Sony models adapted to Date.

It’s a software problem related to camera api 2 - so no problem on the hardware side. So from the hardware side using Sony cameras is a good choice to my mind - let’s see how the software will be improved.

Not sure if its deliberate, but there’s not been a lot of new material showing off the real hardware that’s been released so far. I can find one video on their facebook page briefly showing off a real prototype device but that’s about it and we’re one month out from release.
I sure hope its not going to be another Doughnut Lab…

Doughnut lab? You don’t think they are just really really busy before deadline? I imagine myself working my ass off 30 days before release, full of anxiety and excitement.

Not much on there from the last few months except reminders to complete your order, about how they’ve been talking to politicians and how they’ve been promoting the device. But instead of showing off working devices they’re just showing photos of people with the devices. Most photos with devices as the focus are either mockups or 3D renders.
Besides, mastodon is a relatively small platform (these days) mostly used by people who quit Twitter because of what happened after Elon Musk took it over. (Not that twitter was any good for anything except low attention span garbage before then).

I mean they are a small team. And SailfishOS is litterally already out on C2 and a lot of Xperia phones. You can just watch those to see functional videos. Jolla Phone isn’t out yet. You can’t expect them to showcase a phone every week they are still working on.
In development phases, there will always be that time where they dump every other project to fix bugs and finish snag-lists. This is that time. They don’t wanna dissapoint on the 8th of July.

I’m obviously not asking for weekly videos, just actually showing off the devices as things mature and are ready to be shown to customers who’ve already paid in full. That youtube short you posted is a cut from the one video I mentioned and it has the same issue I mentioned. Its not a video about the phone, its a video about a guy talking about the phone.
I fully understand that they’re a very small company working on a shoestring budget, as shown by how badly they’re behind on customer support. Which is why I’ve not bothered bringing up the lack of any media showing off the actual device until now that we’re a month out from release. It should be coming together and at a point where its ready to be the main character of a video or two, not a background one still.
