Low-key, based observation.
Maybe I am totally out of touch but I like the square corners. Rounded corners are a bit dull and mainstream, there’s zero personality in it.
Also… Old? How? I hear this complaint about the Sailfish UI a lot and it’s completely baffling. Something being different doesn’t make it look old automatically.
It doesn’t look five years old but more like 13 years old, and that’s precisely the point. They are paying homage to their first Jolla phone, which had a similar design.
I’m actually quite happy with this design and love the fact that it’s not just another generic Android phone flashed with SFOS, but their own traditional design that actually stands out to some extent.
You are replying with reason to an account that was created 2 minutes before posting the above, and my gut feeling tells me maybe not even born 13 years ago ![]()
We need a one button solution for the ignore list.
He is not wrong though. Its an evolution of an old design. Something like all the “retro” looking cars we see these days (fiat 500 etc).
It has its appeal.

The phone looks how it has to look and how Jolla decided it to look. Nobody forces you to buy it if you do not like it. All the orders made implicitly support the design.
As for the size….there are tons of posts discussing it.
Apa, fins aviat.
For me the design of the phone is comparable to German cars and French cars. German cars are often designed by engeneers (so it is told) ,French cars are designed by designers who studied car design, these cars often are in front of the wave that follows.
The design of J2 has something that differs from the rest, some kind of exotic spice that’s added. I for me I love exotic spices. I love the design of J2.
…and I know, some guys hate French cars.
Some?
I thought it was common knowledge to avoid the 3 F’s.
Ford, fiat, French ![]()
Anyway, the phone looks exactly like it was supposed to, a Jolla phone V2 with a small budget.
It stands out because literally every other phone is a screen with rounded corners and a slightly different camera bump.
I like the design of the J2, not mainstream but distinct character.
I have a German and a French car, they are not so different in design, I like both.
Design language of some Italian cars are a different league, e.g Lancia Stratos Zero - Wikipedia
Another point I consider very important: will the J2 have an HBM (high brightness mode)?
Devices without are useless in Iberian regions even in winter when not limited to indoor use.
The HBM on the Volla is absolutely essential to outdoor usability even in January where I live.
Every object has limitation to how it can be designed. Ie the outside styling of a car is not something you interact with so you pretty much can do anything with it. (within reason and regulations). The interios is another story since you interact with it.
A phone is something you interact with so you cant do something out of the ordinary. Hence why most phones look similar.
Of course there are choices that can be made and sadly most just sell the same product (android) so you get all the iphone/samsung copycats since those things sell.
And from my POV jolla sadly didnt have the balls/sisu -and money- to be a bit more adventurous and correct (to sfos) with the design.
My Unihertz Titan 2 begs to differ. ^^
Isn’t that pretty much the same case?
Both unihertz and Chen’s new adventure try to get some of the leftover BB market, that’s why the devices are like this.
i like the design of the original jolla - and also this one (although i’m not yet fully convinced by the camera breaking the “flat” backside).
One thing i couldnt find infos about (or overread them): repairability?
Can it be opened as simple as the old phone? Is the battery simply to take out? Is the rest of the phone just using screws?
Is there glue used anywhere?
They have said that the battery will be replaceable, and will also have them on sale on due course. I haven’t read anything about fabrication methods.
As the EU heavily forces repairability of devices I hope that we will see less glue and more screws…
Oh, yes, that would be great in addition to the swappable battery ![]()
I just was sharing my opinion, that’s all.
I don’t understand why some people on this forum feel attacked. Opinions are free. Of course I preordered the Jolla as soon as I saw it a few days ago, but does that mean only you have the right to an opinion and I don’t?
I agree. Some reactions are too aggressive.
On the other hand, there have been some annoying trolls in the past, therefore a vocal reply might come spontaneous.
