Christmas buns?

Again?
Twenty Characters
There will probably not be one. It has been explained why many times.
Really it’s time to say goodbye to it, we are in the 2020’s, not 2000’s anymore.
Industry have moved on, even if we don’t like it.
I did bought a voucher, but my expectations are more on the software side :
- Contacts with carriers to be whitelisted for VOLTE
- A way to use the phone on connected car with Android Auto
- A clear fully supported smartwatches lists
- A way to have full banking apps supported
- A way to pay with the phone
They are IMHO the way to be a true alternative to Android and iOS. Not the jack…
In this I’m somewhat interested.
I am not personally interested in these points at all.
My requirements are quite simple:
- Making calls
- SMS – very rarely
- Short messages via Threema (SMS replacement)
- Reading and replying to emails
- Searching the internet
- Writing Markdown notes
- Conversing on Mastodon
- Enjoying music and podcasts using earphones so as not to disturb the outside world (if necessary, also via USB-C to 3.5 mm RCA)
Sensitive matters such as online banking, interacting with insurance companies or authorities are not part of my personal use of a smartphone. All this I handle on my Linux desktop.
Have you tried Hutspot? It works quite well for me
in first of course! ![]()
I booked for myself also one, I hope this time:
- A-GPS will actually work. As there is no excuse on using Sony’s stuff here I expect full control and working A-GPS, as well as EGNOS integration.
- Android Banking apps support. This means support for keystore, fingerprint, and get around rooting detectors.
- There is also going to be the EU Digital Wallet, that has to work as well. I suspect requirements are close to banking apps. Bluetooth/NFC support in Android apps would be needed.
..please tell me if there is no hope for those - or future looks bright?
Lol no, you can look for that on warez forums etc, there is no company that will devote time to that, fighting with googol is pointless and will just end up with a lawsuit, maybe some anonymous hacker can avoid that, company with official address not really
Some apps are supported, refer to Banking apps on Sailfish OS
This is a more general question, not directly related to Jolla or SailfishOS
It depends on how far the EU will go with digital sovereignty
Yes, at the moment on Xperia 10 III S-Pankki works, ÅAB does not. But no fingerprint support, that would be very nice.
It is. The EU wallet is coming, that is pretty certain. Schedules are other matter altogether.
It would be possible to make a native one*, as its open spec. It rather complicated thing though, and reference code is only for Android and iOS.
This is very interesting topic in itself, let me open a separate thread for it
(* if there is proper support for real secure keystore, meaning TEE)
2nd batch sold out!
(?):
And it’s still selling by looks of it, hopefully that’s intentional lol
I pre-ordered a device from the first batch. Here are the two things I am seriously hoping for:
A screen refresh rate above 60Hz.
Removal of the notch (I consider it an ugly design - Always is), even if this means the device has a slightly bigger top bezel.
Most (AM)OLED displays available on the market nowadays are 90/120Hz
It is unlikely that Jolla would specifically target 60Hz ones
I too prefer Sony’s no notch no hole design approach
honestly, I kinda like the big notch; it’s a nice, bold shape, it fits the design better than the typical hole punch imo
…that being said, a Sony-style bigger top bezel, to be symmetrical with the bottom bezel would also be really nice
