Wondering - how to understand the
User configurable physical Privacy Switch - turn off you microphone, bluetooth, Android apps, or whatever you wish
Ok, it’s a user configurable button. But then again, wouldn’t the point of a Privacy switch be to physically switch off certain components - which then again could not be user configurable? Or is this my misinterprettion?
And as it’s just a software switch, can the button also be assigned to a different function, let’s say flashlight or anything else?
Apart from that I’ll join in on the common opinion about huge camera bulge (alas, how’s it supposed to lie on a surface?) and the headphone jack. And I also like the overall design.

Hasn’t Fairphone 6 a similar feature? So it’s a consequent decision for a privacy focused device.

@Cryx I think so, and so does shiftphone. Just wondering how it works and if it delivers the promised security. After all, if the switch just acts on the software, the software should be able to undo it - no?

Am I reading correctly that estimated delivery is “by the end of first half of 2026” ? Does 1H mean that?
Such a gorgeous looking device! Pre-ordered immediately. Changeable back cover in different colour options brings back such pleasant memories of the original Jolla, glad to have that option again!

Maybe @Jolla / @rainemak can clarify on the question how much they’ll have to build on drivers designed for android (or are compiled for android, aka “BLOBS”) and how much they can compile directly against the linux kernel when using the selected HW components.

The specs was not visible when viewing the page on mobile.
Marketing buzzword maybe? Because there’s no point to have a switch if it’s no better than a button on the screen.
That’s why I’m so tempted to buy one.

@rainemak Given this is not the “final payment”, how long would I have after January 4th/whenever the campaign is fulfilled to make that final payment? Is it a matter of a month or two?
The timing of this is rather important (not a deal-breaker though!), if I can hold it off for two weeks or so that would be very helpful for me.
Sorry if silly question, this is my first time joining one of these pre-order campaigns.
