Jolla Phone : First Experiences, Pros and Cons

Sorry, I should have been a little more explicit. Rereading my post I realize that it could be taken at face value, not as joking. (It triggered by @nephros joking about not being allowed to tell @PolatBirdal anything about the phone)

I will  not heading for the stand-up stage anytime soon!

Well, I strongly suggest that you enter stage left, walk along … and then immediately exit stage right.

If you don’t you’ll have plenty of cabbages and rotten tomatoes to make dinner with.

I will heed this is advice from the lawyer I know from the forum  (and work on being fast enough once on stage).

One with each lens

Also installed Open Camera (Android), and noticed main lens viewfinder was updating really choppy slow. OC preferences screen has Camera2 API toggle, enabling seems to have fixed it. No idea if this means SFOS itself has received long-awaited Camera2 API work or not, as native Camera app viewfinder works well ootb.

For some reason, Open Camera pictures fail to show up in Gallery. Resetting localsearch database also didn’t help, unsure what’s happening there thus far.

Maybe the local search 3, formerly known as the tracker 3 indexer, can’t see android_storage/DCIM/Opencamera/.

In Open Camera-Prefs try to activate “Storage Access Framework” under “More Camera Preferences” (translated from German; it may be named differently) and select or create another directory for saving photos.

I am not due to receive mine until next month - can someone confirm if the phone has wireless charging, so I can get things ready for it..? (and how good is the screen?)

yes i’m really interested to know what’s the refresh rate

It does not; there may (or may not) be someone making a wireless charging TOH.

When you firstly create a second profile, then you don’t have jolla store there, but have gbox and fdroid, after I install some apps on the second profile, then switch to the first one and then coming back to the second one all apps are dissapeared

Known issue. At least for now.

well my general experience with the phone has been overall good. I will do more in depth review later.

my only major issue has been with whatsapp crashing when someone shares their location and keeps crashing every time I try to open the chat, I’m not sure if its a regression with 5.2 or is it a MicroG/WhatsApp issue.

the LOG FILE

I will check it later, or if someone else knows let me know

It’s snappy (there were some weird hiccups when scrolling during initial setup, but seem gone now), already getting used to the size, the screen seems ok, but not really burning my eyes on max brightness, so bit worried about readability in full sun. GPS got a fix in seconds and seems to utilize 3x/50 unlike XV which was always stuck on 4-6/50 sats used, not sure if they fixed algo or better chip (edit: on the train gps seems back to old few sats in use and around a minute lock sadly, guess it was beacondb in helsinki?). Camera’s fine, browser still sucky, but we got alternatives now so not as bad as it used to be, so far all android apps seem to be working as expected. So far so good

I guessed not, but thanks for confirming :victory_hand: Comments about the battery life suggest I may not need to charge it very often…:crossed_fingers:

But then, maybe it was already mentioned and I did not see it….when will the rest of batch 1 shipped?

Would you mind me posting these photos on the jolla community italy pixelfed page?

They said they will start shipping after the day1 event and people from batch #1-#3 will get their phones in july/august. So, batch one phones could be arriving next week i think. Stay calm and let the jolla team have some rest.
