Jolla Phone 2026 cannot boot

Hello all,

I tried turning on the developer options in order to follow this guide. The developer options appear to be turned on successfully, so I decided to restart the device. It looks like the phone is stuck in boot whenever I turn it on, and after a few minutes it shuts down completely. Here is a video of the whole process:

I tried following the instructions in the support articles to get the recovery going, but it seems there is no hybris-recovery.img for my device. Is there anything I’m missing?

Please excuse me but I don’t like videos. So w/o a proper description here my 2 cents:

  1. Turn off the device, don’t use the reboot icon
  2. Remove the battery for some coffee and try it again
  3. If nothings helps try this: Jolla Phone 2026 boot loop - #50 by bardoftruth

Yes - none is needed any more.
Hold vol-up while booting for boot menu, including option to enter recovery.

And what exactly did you do?
Developer mode alone does nothing.

Thanks, I even forgot I can remove the battery. Will try the steps after I’m eating though.

yep, that’s what I expected.

I only fiddled with the APN settings before. Then decided to try the linked fix in order to solve another issue and went to developer options. Enabled the option, entered my PIN code, returned to the settings’ main screen, and restarted the device.

I think it would help to do a factory reset once I’m in anyway, just to try to fix any other potential issue that might occur.

In the video I did not see the encryption pincode…

Yep, that’s right, it does not get to it. It boots, goes past the Jolla logo, then it goes past the Sailfish one as well, and then it gets stuck on a black screen with the LED colored white. After a while, it just shuts back down.

Try pressing the power button a couple of times during this time, the password entry screen should appear.

Wait, everyone. I DID IT! I just went into recovery and did not do anything except reboot. The instructions to revert your phone back to the normal state are a bit unclear, so I decided to turn my phone down and reopen the recovery just to exit the thing (I would have normally just unplugged the cable after successfully rebooting, but I was too afraid I would break anything if I did so).

I booted back up, and I noticed that the numpad appeared for a very brief moment (something like a split second or so), and then the screen turned black with the LED light still going. I short-pressed the power button once, and the numpad was visible. So I decided to investigate.

Well, it turns out this was because of the Nightish app being on. I think this was maybe the issue with the phone in the first place, but perhaps I just never restarted my phone late at night until yesterday (I’m using the app since a couple of days ago).

I think I’ll uninstall that and wait for a proper OS-wide night mode from Jolla.

Tl;dr for whoever stumbles across this: The phone might be fine. Just press the power button once. Then turn off the Nightish app if you have it and dump it in the bin for the time being. Or, if it is an actual issue, go to recovery and simply reboot your phone. Just like that.

Oh dear,
I am really afraid of the upcoming times.

Tint overlay was (in)famous to crash a lot of devices/funtionality after Jolla changed something.
No idea about current state. And tbh no idea anymore what went wrong and what was the real culprit.
But I stayed away from that for sooo long time…

Not looking good for my eyes. At least Android apps seem to do just fine (despite the fact they only work for Android apps only :smiling_face_with_tear: )

what to do when the phone never shows a logo and just boots into recovery, it has booted up fine and worked.

i didn’t change anything and can’t even get into fastboot or normal boot at all?
When i let the usb cable connected then will it just show that it briefly connects then disconnects to connect as recovery mode.

If nothing else works, try to take out the battery for few minutes.

i did try that and still does it just only boot into recovery.
i tried all possible volume button combinations that i could think of and it always goes into recovery.
It never shows anything on screen until recovery is booted.

20 minutes ago the phone just worked and i just rebooted it to see that.

i tried option 2 to reboot the phone but it does not work as it just boots into recovery.

Well you can use the recovery shell to try to diagnose and fix what is wrong, do a factory reset, open a Jolla Zendesk ticket and wait for them to contact you or try to ping Jolla staff (probably better open a new topic for you issues, since this is marked as solved. This applies also to continuation on option 1).
