Jolla Phone 2026 - batch 1 - Dust building up between front camera and screen glass

Orange here from Day 1 and I still can’t see dust build up in the front facing camera. I guess the reason why is that I applied the privacy glass over the factory one that was already there because I didn’t notice :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Anybody did the same mistake and having the same behavior ?

@jolla - my phone delivery has been held due to being out the country (thank you), you are very welcome to use it to investigate the dust cover status. there is an email to that effect.

Same here, dust gets into the camera housing. Presumably these early ‘oranges’ were all assembled in the same batch.

I have orange one from Day1 and the camera area is clean. I did not install the screen protector yet. Maybe I wouldn’t peel the factory installed protector starting close to the camera.

Orange Day 1, can’t see any dust. We’re not alone.

I depends how you use the phone and what kind of environment it is in. I don’t have any dust yet but I know it will because when I blow into the speaker grill the camera fogs up immediately. You can also try to do the finger tap test in order to find out of the camera rattles because it is not fixed to the glass.

I would like that Jolla gives us the option to remedy this fault our selves. I don’t know what the fix is but if there is a part missing that Jolla instead sends the part so that we can install it ourselves. I would accept that this voids the warranty in that case. The reason is that I feel I can’t be bothered sending the phone back and forth for this and some are already using it as a daily driver.

#445x shipped 22.7, Black, there are more particles after week, but i have to say not everyday in pocket as there is too hot to wear anything except swimming shorts  so maybe 3x-5x for few hours. attaching pictures almost aligned, so you can download and try slideshow to see differences

i don’t do selfies so i don’t care so much, just for your interest…, for me is important how cool is macro (0.5x) camera, so far much better than most iPhones around me! so thanks @Jolla and @rainemak for this great phone taking incredible macros

I have Galaxy fold 7 and if i shake phone cover camera rattles. I think that allmous every camera makes that sound, because camera element not attached mainboard same way than main cameras

Yes most of the camera lens ratles, it is because it is mounted by very thin pieces like hair wires and focusing via electromagnetics, iPhones does not rattle but there is bigger delay between focus from farest to longest distance…

It looks like you have the plastic screen protector on under the glass one?

no there is no plastic screen protector, it looks like it is, but it is border of transparent part of notch for selfie camer as the rest is black non transparent

Most iPhones from the last 5-6 years moved to sensor shift instead of OIS and that’s when the rattling stopped if I remember correctly.

Dust here, Orange, Day 1, JP260112256000200, #20761.

Kind of concerning that we’re now also getting reports of black and white coloured phones with this issue.

I think, color of back cover don’t have impact on dust between display glas and front camera module

Jolla said that it is important to know the back cover color. They assemble them in batches according the back cover color, so they can use that as a hint if problem is related to batch or all units

Not really related, but maybe also a hint:

The default photos on my Jolla have a date 08.07.2026 with time around 13:00. I somehow guess that this is the date when the crew at Salo flashed the OS on the device - and maybe also a hint what batch or assembling date is related.

I use my Jolla (Orange) 12 days now and carry it in my pocket. I have no dust particles so far.
