Jolla Phone 2026 - batch 1 - Dust building up between front camera and screen glass

Have you maybe considered using anti dust spray? Where dust gets in air shoud go through.

It can easily be from pocket - cloth dust.

I disagree it’d be normal even after a year unless something cracks, and I personally haven’t seen dust buildup in any phone I owned yet

Luckily same here (I have the gorilla protective cover applied on top of the factory one, as was unaware there was a second layer to peel after the obvious plastic one, not sure if that changes things?)

Sorry… the dust is getting in via the side of the phone - because the screen has no inlets/holes for the camera.

Interesting, I wonder if that happens when changing covers? I haven’t yet even tested the inari one (and now I’m afraid to do it)

@throwaway69
I had all (both) protectors removed befor applying the privacy shield one. I guess one thing has nothing to do with the other.

I’d rather think the dust gets in via the speaker grill just next to it. There is likely insufficient or no dust barrier between those two.

That´s a biased point of view. I use a Motorola ThinkPhone 25, 400e, and the camera module is wonderfully clean from dust.. after one year and a half of use.

It shouldn´t happen.

I have switched covers a few times and carried the phone in my pocket (not regularly) and -thanks to this thread- noticed a small amount of dust building up. My wife hasn’t replaced the cover yet, never carry the phone outside -ie. never put it in her pocket- and there are tiny particles of dust in her JP2

Agree. I consider product defective if there is dust between cam and screen glass.

This is disappointing, isn’t there any mesh on speaker hole what prevents dust go inside phone.

I can imagine what amount of dust get inside phone when carried that in pocket

There is a mesh but the particles are super fine. I think you can’t prevent ingress without a seal towards the camera lens.

I understand that this is a defect but for me personally it is not a big deal, I never use selfie cameras. I am aware though that others do and that this issue needs to be rectified.

Thank you all for reporting these! This problem worries me, I have not received the phone yet (still in transport). In particular, what about the main camera? Does it looks clean at least?

Could @jolla at least confirm that they’re assessing the situation? This should not be happen, not matter if it is a low/mid/high range phone. Also should the people deny to getting the package, so it will be send back to the factory/Jolla?

No issues with the main camera at this point, looks pristine.

I’m sure @Jolla is looking in to this, small problem might be that probably most of Jolla employees are on holiday, which probably causes delays with the matter…

I think I’ve found the problem. You’re keeping the phone in the same location as your pocket sand !

You were absolutely right in the first sentence you wrote, but what you’re saying now is a bit rude. Of course, you can’t just compare this phone to a flagship; there are things that make it different, but you can’t ignore those either.

Calm down— even billion-dollar companies like Apple make mistakes, so don’t be too hard on such small companies.
