Jollyboys doing very jolly moves
Can someone explain to non tech person, how good thing it is that Kernel was published? Does it allow community now do things that they were not able to do before?
Yes - inspect and contribute. Well, also customize and build own versions presumably.
Amazing, thank you for the explanation!
1.7 million lines of code for out-of-tree drivers. My guess is that we will never see a modern kernel on that device and that jolla opened it up in the desperate hope that someone might help identify and fix bugs.
Poor choice in vendor, unmaintainable crap!
And another reason will be simply legal, its GPL and needs to be available in src.
Guys I was told very sad news
We’re no longer jolly Jollyboys are no more, we’re back to being Jolla
@Mister_Magister what do you mean? Jollyboys stepped out, and Jolla returned to previous state, where they are looking for investors?
They changed name from JollyBoys to Jolla Group
To correct, Jollyboys Oy changed its name to Jolla Mobile Oy – business id is the same. Jollyboys remains as supplementary firm name.
That’s cool. I really like the Jollyboys name.
Welcome back Jolla Mobile! May you get strong wind in your back!
EDIT: Did we have the same sources for the First One?
Nice change! The new name is more serious and it suits a company with grown ups better. Women can now be included too. Good luck!
This really is a change in policy. I understand it only concerns the C2, This means the C2 turns more into a community device? Also I guess Jolla wants to continue this device?
No it is not a change in policy. The kernel sources for all the sony devices can also be found on the internet, maybe only published and maybe even maintained by the vendor.
Here we just see a massive dump done by jolla, maybe because the vendor does not care or dare.
A really bad sign if you ask me. Let us revisit in 7 months if anyone manages to lift it at least to 5.10 or if it happily goes EOL like i.e. Qt.
Also note how sailfish commits are already on the default branch, this clearly shows a forking mentality and little experience with keeping a repo like that moving with upstream.
OMG … Add vendor changes on top of linux-stable 5.4.233 tag · mer-hybris/s19mps-kernel@01da9fc · GitHub forked and destroyed with just one commit, probably even merging 5.4.YYY will not work which is why we see weird cherry-picks

It might be a good idea to actually put git tags on the commits that have been shipped so far. But that is likely not possible without having to publish even more horrible vendor stuff.
If anyone asked they would probably first not get an answer and later get something not so public.
