That has nothing to do with a device reset.
Doesnât the device make a cold boot on power on after power was off?
A cold boot and device reset are completely different things. Shutting down the device is enough for next cold boot.
I had a situation some time ago with a Volla, there I had to disconnect the battery from the mainboard to release from a locked state, and after this it works again completely normal. But no chance without disconnecting, I tried all tricks before.
The Touchscreen doesn`t work for me. I canât enter a code!!!
In fact, we are unable to suppress power input that way. The phone will shut down normally, at a certain voltage.
It is not the same phenomenon as unplugging the battery.
btw, just to note, it is not very good for batteries to discharge too much, i.e. descend too low in voltage. If possible, it is advised to keep the battery between 20% and 80% IIRC.
Yes youâre right. The phones are new + under warranty, so no good idea to open the device and unplug the battery. Further, nobody knows if it will help or not.
My Volla was old, no warranty and stuck after a failed flashing attempt, that was all, so better situation.
Did follow them. Without sim.
Finished wizzard with skipped account, wifi. Wifi would not work, tells me to reboot to get wifi.
I do turn off, which actually did work, no reboot. On next boot i am back in wizzard (with prev message regarding encryption) have set language again and time zone.
The second time i do not skip tutorial and now i am stuck in demo to unlock screen it seems.
Bottom up, top down swipe do work, left right edge swipes not, so seems phone is locked now.
Restart ends with wheel of death.
Incorrect code is recognized, correct leads to âŚ
I recieved the Jolla C2 today, yet after reading the posts about first booting problems I am inclined to wait that Jolla posts some possible work-arounds. Or even send it back so they can repair the system.
I can wait more time to use again a Jolla phone after Jolla C.
Finally I plugged in to charge, which worked fine wirhout starting up the initial procedure. Then I ran the setup and did even a system update. Everything working fine.
If someone ends in similar situation, they could try if the old âtapping top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left corners of the screen to end tutorialâ-trick is still usable.
New tutorial is not forced, thereâs an X button in top right to skip it at the start (not entirely sure if thatâs a good thing, most people skip if they can and then you end up with people completely unaware of swipe-based navigation tapping corners instead of swiping (or making yt videos how theyâre stuck in tutorial), canât be helped probably)
So we are stuck now with the security code as well.
In our case
- a 5 digit security code was used
- it was not possible to get WiFi to work on the phone, i.e. the device asked for a reboot because there is a problem
- it was possible to reboot the device multiple times until a SIM card entered
- after the SIM card was entered we are not able to get past the enter security code dialog anymore
@rainemak Can somebody clarify how to proceed from here?
Should we open a ticket to have the device send to Jolla or should be we wait until Jolla offers a solution to the issue. I guess an image to re-flash the device, if this is only a software problem, should solve the problem
Detailed steps:
Connect phone to charger
Phone boots up on itâs own
Setup starts
- Select language English (US)
- Enter security code with 5 digits
- Can not configure WiFi button, skip this step
Device boots in the UI
Run through tutorial - at first swipes are not recognised.
Not possible to enable WiFi under settings - device says problem with WiFi please reboot.
- restarting network via settings/utilities or switching flight mode on/off does not help
- so account creation was not possible
- because of this it is not possible to enabled developer mode
Restart device
Setup starts again with the same steps but device states it cannot encrypt partition
Still device boots in the UI
Tutorial can be closed, skipped this time - so it knows this our second time around
WiFi can still not be enabled via settings, same issue
We did this 3 or 4 times
Next we enter a SIM card
Enter code for SIM card
Restart the device
Device asks for security code
Spinner never goes away
Shutdown device
Remove SIM card
Start device
Device asks for security code
Spinner never goes away - we are stuck
Reading all this kind of makes me regret having ordered, although mine has been stuck for a week now with posti âwaiting for the itemâ. Emailed Jolla shop and of course no response⌠I feel disappointed and I donât even have the phone yetâŚ
People come here for support mostly, so itâs no surprise you will have ppl reporting issues, if you get wlan during initial setup youâll most likely be fine it seems, you can probably start a new thread about fear, uncertainty and doubt about your orders if you feel so inclined, but your feelings hardly add to the discussion
i have the exact same problem. i was able to select the language then it encrypted the user filesystem and a reboot followed. since then no touch input ist possible. cant enter sim pin and without sim also cant enter device code. how to move on jolla? what to do?
I think once the issues are solved the device will be worth the wait. Itâs just such a same that on-boarding process seems to be botched - I am sure Jolla feels the same.
I am still glad I ordered and got one and canât wait to use the phone!
EDIT: forget the stuff about files below, it would appear this is not how it works anymore. Instead, there is a dconf key called /apps/jolla-startupwizard/reached_tutorial
.
Not sure if it helps, but it seems the first run wizard is disabled through these files in home:
-rw-r--r-- 1 nemo privileg 0 May 11 2022 .jolla-startupwizard-done
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nemo privileg 0 May 19 2022 .jolla-startupwizard-usersession-done
So if one can boot through past the wizard, maybe thereâs a way to create these files and turn it off after the reboot.
The biggest problem is no wlan, which also means no developer mode as it needs to download fingerterm (aside from no fastboot or similar way to even reflash at home it seems), unless mobile network works, but it seems people are forced into reboot with failed decryption soon after wlan failing so not sure
Maybe the System has running some background-workers after reaching the Startscreen for the first time. So let it run for hours to be sure before a reboot!?
I have received my C2 today.
The battery was at 80%.
I had no problem to configure it (with wifi but without sim) and to update the software (to version 5.0.0.21).
And I have already reboot the phone two times without problem.
