I can't activate Viber on Jolla Phone

Hello. Anyone got Viber working on new Jolla Phone? It is the one app that is critical for me, I was hoping it should work with android app support, but I can’t get it to activate. I enabled all possible permissions but I’m still getting “activation failed“. I can get around bank app and contactless payments not working, but unfortunately without Viber phone is basically unusable for me..

Hello and welcome! I don’t use Viber personally, but there is report that Viber have worked with at least in one instance: How to get push notifications? - #3 by filip.k . Not with Jolla phone assuming from the date, but any way. There is also threads that it doesn’t work, but maybe @filip.k can shed some light.

Edit. In the meantime you can find more info regarding Viber by using the search functionality in top right corner.

Yeah I tried search but found nothing newer than 2022. I could even live without notifications, but the problem is I can’t even activate it. I use it every day for my job, unfortunately phone without working Viber isn’t an option for me.

My experience might be obsolete. Besides I forgot. But it still works for me on C2.

EDIT: no MicroG here.

Do you have MicroG installed? Did you try to install older versions from Aurora?

I do have MicroG installed. I don’t see an option on Aurora to select different versions for download.

From top right under the three dots (if I remember correctly) you can select manual version download

Thanks, I just tried about a year old version, no luck still, “verification failed“ message every time.

A few years ago I adjusted the dpi of the phone ( from the AAS side to 600+ ) to get it to download the tablet version from aurora.
It showed me a barcode if I remember correctly to scan from my other device and it worked perfectly fine.
After that I adjusted the dpi back to default and that was the end of it.

I didn’t setup my j2 yet so I’ll report if I find a solution when the time comes, but you can give it a shot.

I managed to get it working - under MicroG settings - Register device, I had to change profile from Native (default) to Real. When I did that, activation call got through. Now I just have to figure out if it is possible to get notifications to show up, because atm I’m not getting any

Well that is already amazing!

Probably you have to enable them in microg, there is a setting for push notification, althought it might happen service will not work

Weirdly enough it works flawlessly for whatsapp (for me) but not for the package tracker
