Yes, it felt smoother without SIM. Switching wifi networks now also requires a disable and enable before the new one is picked up. But, both of these certainly can be related to the ofono crashing.
- Except for having to use the huge text size so the browser looks like an 80x24 terminal the C2 ESR 91 browser is producing way fewer OoMs than any of the Xperias except the XZ3.
- The extended grid sizes are a huge boost to overview.
- Form factor better than most Xperias. Feels more stable in one-handed operation.
- Generally running very smoothly.
- Not even one lipstick crash on the C2 in 40 days (c.f. several times a week with Xperia10iii).
- Only 1 unexpected reboot
I like C2 until now even if it has the already mentioned bugs, but when I go back to 10III and I see the OLED Display I realize that I will have a problem with non OLED screens from now on. When I go back to 10III the screen look much smaller than it really is :))).
My experience is very different, C2 size makes typing easier, less typos while typing, and battery life is better than 10iii.
- ESR91 browser crashes more often on C2 than 10iii in my case.
- C2 might run smoothly but it’s noticeable slower than 10iii, and possibly iv and v.
I am sure next releases will fix unexpected reboots and will perform better but I doubt it will become a replacement to my 10iii.
Followed the advices in the thread for installing microG on C2, involving removing appsupport totally with this guide (first clean then brutal method):
Removing Android AppSupport | Sailfish OS Documentation
Turns out that my phone has become a brick. It demands my code, which works and then want me to choose language - which I do. I agree with licenses and then I come in a loop - back to language choice again. Sometimes I come to a grey screen and nothing happens. I can turn it off.
Any idea what to do?
If you updated to 5.0.0.29 I’m afraid you’re out of luck . The only way is Zendesk.
And probably with older versions too.
i GUESS, to not mess up the mobile networks with alpha software and take the risk to cause technical malfunctions/disturbances at the operator side.
Thank You. Tried, but turning off vibration did not help with sound loss problem.
The only thing is working for me to keep the nozification sound always running is to NOT start Android apps, as I noticed after starting an Android app the CPU usage of the service ngfd is always on 12.5% and this usage percentage is like black magic, because immediately the sounds stop working and than you have to restart the service manually via the shell … until a oatchvfor this is released, I montitor the cpu usage of ngfd with top in the terminal and restart the daemon, if the CPU usage goes to 12.5%
I did not read everything in here but it seems some people are seeing the device getting stuck after entering the encryption PIN. A problem i know all too well from an X II and a Z5 compact and maybe it just is the same problem.
I never found a solution, only workarounds found somewhere here or on the internet.
- try waiting like a minute before entering you PIN
- or try entering a false PIN (maybe only helps because you “wait”)
My guess was always that entropy was running out and haveged or a newer kernel would help. Or maybe some dependency missing in systemd services responsible for the decrypt screen. At least these two guesses could explain why waiting helped for me on other devices.
But maybe here it is something totally different. I guess that people who rebooted 15 times likely did not rush to enter the PIN quickly every single time and probably already tried waiting.
In the Sounds and Feedback settings, have you turned off both “Vibration: Never” and "Touch Screen Vibration"? That helped me.
To be honest, no I don’t, but when I know this, I will give a try and I will report …
And if someone isn’t comfortable using terminal, the process ngfd can be killed with an app called Lighthouse (and propably others like it). No need to restart anything
Thank you so much for the tipps with the apps … Lighthouse seems to be not installable for C2 as I get no install option in Storeman, just repo refresh, but Crest was and it is indeed very nice and usefull …
Lighthouse ie definitely installable on C2. If it fails with Storeman, you can always sideload the RPM downloaded from Jolla Browser.
Yep that work to install the rpm … Thank you very much
Several times the last three days I found the C2 off picking it up from my pocket. Today I might have found the reason. Holding the locked phone in my hand receiving a text it crashed just after the notification appeared. I received two further copies of this text message within the hour after booting again.
