What you mean definitive? If you mean official reply from Jolla, there isn’t one. Just community members trying to calm down people having a nervous breakdown over these small setbacks.
I would say “anything that is not speculation” would qualify. But maybe others should answer that - as I said, I cancelled my pre-order but I received my (barely) used Jolla Phone from the second hand market just this morning and I’m very happy with it. ![]()
In case the “nervous breakdown” is directed at the (few) people discussing this in this thread (in a pretty non-dramatic manner): I disagree. I think there is a very big difference between being OK with delays and sparse communication and being OK with potentially being auto-flagged and reported as “not paying their bills” through the automated systems and payment providers that are involved as external partners (Shopify, Paypal, Credit Card provides and the whole ecosystem of leeches like Schufa and other rating agencies). Again, I’ve seen this happen to others (not in the Jolla-context) and it can be really annoying and cost you a lot of time and energy to put right. Much more than any phone on this planet is worth.
For reference, here’s the very recent official statement from Jolla as of a few minutes ago:
”Final payments for the October batch
There’s been questions in regards the final payments collection for the October delivery as the due date lapsed in July 31 for some of the early customers. No worries, this was due to the delays in the process (incl. the dust issue) combined with some overlapping holidays in our small team and all the orders remain valid. We’ll adjust the lapsed due dates automatically and send individual email to every affected customer next week.”
It was not directed at people in this thread, but in general. Since the pre-order was released, people in all the related (and sometimes even unrelated) threads have been tearing their pants for various reasons, from questions that were addressed in the initial post, if only they would read it, to why they are not receiving an email from Jolla every week telling them how their order is progressing, and everything in between.
When the first batch of final payment emails went out, Jolla said that if you don’t pay by the final date, your order will be canceled and the pre-order payment will be refunded, so worst case scenario here is to lose your position in the queue, and even then I’m sure it can be sorted by contacting Jolla and explaining the situation. The payment won’t default on you, Jolla won’t send debt collectors after you, they won’t contact any payment institutions or contact any local enforcement agency in your country.
Like the community said, a minor mistake and nothing to worry about.
I would consider your reply a bit of an example in the overly dramatic direction… I did not say anything about debt collectors or enforcement. I very specifically talked about rating agencies. And those are automatically connected to infrastructure like Shopify and the payment providers such as Paypal. If you forget to remove a “pay before” deadline as a merchant, it is entirely possible and logical that a “customer has not payed”-flag is passed along those systems without any Jolla involvement at all. That’s part of what those agencies do. And it’s not really something Jolla could do much about ex-post because those agencies are a black hole in most countries and the “process” of correcting errors is between horrible and non-existant. Is it so hard to believe that I’ve seen this happen with other people, specifically in the context of pre-/partial payments for small companies? What’s with the hyperbole if you’re complaining about people being too hyperbolic? ![]()
Never heard of these rating companies existing outside of B2B-rating scope, so that might explain my confusion.
