I’ve been thinking about ToH features that might be neat and maybe even useful, at least to me. [Wiki] Simple ToH ideas (3D printable) was a pretty cool thread, but the simple part (no electronics, etc.) kind of rules out these ideas. So I’m making this post for the ideas that are more involved, but hopefully still feasible.
- Magnetic charger connector
- Extra USB port (for charging while using the real USB port)
- Battery extender
- The jack (yeah, it’s discussed a lot already)
- Media control buttons on the side
- Volume wheel
I think It’d be cool if this ToHs evolve from simple back covers to something that can completely transform the phone.

So this is how I’d try to fit new buttons on the side.
Beyond this sketch, I’ll just have to wait and see what documentation or reference / open source tohs pop up. If someone does the keyboard toh, maybe I could just steal their work and map the buttons to media control keycodes.
Of course these would make most sense in a jack toh, but I’m not going to try that.

A stainless steel, durable back, would be nice. As ToH, not protective cover.
Or a rubber kind one.
Durable or easy to refresh, polish.
If you could use a resin based 3D-printer e.g. Formlabs, you could use a transparent one and the TOH (might be even the stock one from Jolla: toh-designs/jolla/toh-3d-model.step at main · sailfishos/toh-designs · GitHub) could then be printed in silicone i.e this one should do the job: Flexible 50A Resin | Formlabs in case you could use it for other purposes as well.

Translucent resins have been tempting me, but since my experience is limited to FDM PLA, I don’t really know what I can realistically expect from them.

Also, turns out the camera protrusion is taller than the headphone plug's diameter.
