Community meeting on 29th February 2024

Schedule: Thursday 2024-02-29T08:00:00Z   :world_map:   :date:

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Jolla’s retraction of ~ 15 open sourced components in October 2023

Some details about the topic / Questions:

Is Jolla planning the re-release the source code of the ~ 15 software components, which had been released BSD-licensed each in an own GitHub repository in September to Oktober 2023?
If so, …

  • when?
  • all fifteen of them, less, or even more?
  • using the same BSD license as the first time?

The source code of some of these software components was really helpful as a documentation how things really work, plus how to build software using them and how to extend them.
Furthermore, having the source code of these components accessible at GitHub allows for writing proper bug reports or even bug fixes for contributors.

I will not be able to attend the meeting, a reply which answers above questions is fine for me. Though I believe this topic likely will have community attendees eager to discuss it.

  • Name/IRC nick: cquence
  • Topic: eSIM support in Sailfish OS
  • Some details about the topic: Can you clarify what is the situration with eSIM support? Is the eSIM transparent to the OS and can be used as a regular SIM card or does it need work? If additional work is required is it something that can then be used across all devices or is work required for each supported device to enable eSIM for it?
  • Approx. time needed: 5mins
  • Substitute (optional):

Yay for open-sourcing more components in the future \o/

And great to hear that a roadmap could be part of future newsletters, communicating current intentions of course, not promises etched in stone.

Overall I have to say I’m a big fan of the collaborative, friendly and eye-level tone of communication from Jolla that began to manifest in the community meetings around last fall.

Thank you for that, it’s very much appreciated!
