Can we bring 'see flagged post' back?

Not sure when exactly, but since at least a few months the option is gone, is that an option that is opt-in now after some discourse software update? There are regularly some posts that are now unavailable every time I visit the forum, I’m sure some are just political flaming, but also pretty sure some have some merit or bring interesting pov to the discussion, the flagging with no way for users to see what was flagged is getting too hard towards hard censorship, next up age verification and eID so ‘think of the children’ crowd is happy? If people consciously clicking ‘show the big bad flagged content’ in order to be exposed to such content is too problematic for Discourse and they don’t offer the old behaviour back, maybe it’s time to think of a different platform
Edit: like seriously, all you need is 5-10 jolla fanbois to flag any post they deem is critical or too negative of jolla/sfos and we’ll have the best north korean forum in existence, XIII not working in Italy, flagged, problem solved, issues with audio, nextcloud sync, alarms not triggering… bam flagged! Never happened, enjoy our glorious forum where everyone is happy and no bugs exist

I most cases flagged content came from people already on my ignore list.

I do not miss conspiracy theories over communist EU vaccines etc.

Well, best solution is to PM the flagged user and ask him what he wrote. But I agree, flagged content keep content clean.

Moved topic from “Feature Requests” to “Site Feedback”.

I also would like to have the option back, however AFAIK it’s a non-configurable upstream change ATM.

Some context for the behavior:

Apparently this change makes it configurable (for the site admins), and has been merged:

Not sure if toggling this switch is already in the production version of Discourse.

There are people constantly hijacking threads with topics unrelated to the forum or discussion, and some of those posts don’t contribute to a friendly, welcoming community. That’s why I wonder where the line is — and whether bringing back “see flagged post” might help.

Yes, staying on topic seems to be a problem for many of the folk here - it’s rare to have a topic gather more than five posts and still be on topic.

However, I doubt hiding content is the solution - splitting threads so discussion can continue elsewhere (and the ones not interested can stay away) IMO would be much more helpful.

Of course that would mean active moderation by selected people - and if I understand correctly that’s basically against the idea of confluence itself.

There is already the function to split topics. We just need to figure out how to start it correctly? For instance, ping a moderator with the started OT and give him a Topic name?

You can always flag a post and select “Something else”. A text box will open which allows you to write your suggestions, e.g. “I think this post and the replies should be moved to a new topic”. Then a moderator will eventually read your suggestion and act on it.

Oh, I didn’t now it! Will do the next time

That’s cool, but that’s basically also what the description of the first flagging option, “Off-Topic”, sais.

Yeah, I don’t care much about seeing what you have to say really

I know difference between self-moderating content you see (and being able to see it on demand, as your post proves) and censorship by flagging minority where you have no recourse is a hard concept to grasp (especially for a ‘dev’ that sells his app automatically pulling backdoors as a feature), some day you’ll get it

Hijacking topics happens and is a different issue (and as @vige pointed out can be dealt with assuming jolla still has active moderators), the issue is the old forum behaviour seemed to be a nice middle ground, if you’re easily triggered or have some other mental problems, you just don’t click the link on potentially triggering/inflammatory/harmful etc content, ppl who decide they can handle it can see it, simple, but apparently not enough for the flag-happy crowds, as a ton of interesting information gets flagged (see auroraOS thread, oops, no longer can see it as flagged content does get removed eventually) because of politicking, being able to see flagged content seems crucial in order to have a debate/discussion whatever, some users now get flagged almost instantly as apparently flaggers get more organised, so even checking the forum once a day you’ll still miss it, are we sure the content was breaking any rules or was it reddit-mod wannabes flagging asap because of a user name? Now you have no idea
Edit: And I’m sure as hell not trusting ppl who bought into the age verification is needed to protect the children, chat control is freedom etc bs to not abuse the flagging system when it is hard censorship now and they apparently do exist on this forum

I notice that a hidden reply in the last post still causes the thread to appear to have unread messages, so I guess I’ll post here to clear up the blue dot, and to stay on topic I’ll agree that seeing flagged posts isn’t really a feature I need.

Then you’ll be happy to hear that suggesting wuhan lab as source of covid is no longer bannable offence on youtube (and fb, insta, twitter etc), it’s an ex-conspiracy and no longer racist apparently, enjoy the freedom to discuss it while it lasts, because as soon as democrats are back in office it’s back to only happy approved by US gov thoughts, if you wanna keep your account and posting privileges (inb4 your private censorship list is already ready)

Say some american tech rich kids and their Orangeness with the small hands. I could not care less.

Well youtube themselves admitted they were forced by biden gov, twitter we knew since twitter files drop, but you be a good boi and discuss only what the current allowed narrative is, everybody else is a conspiracy theorist, you up to date on your boosters or are you an antivaxxer?

I don’t care for yt, fb, etc. Not my business.

I had my 6th vaccination against corona 6 hrs ago. Already feeling becoming lizardly communist and homosexual.

Well, I’m glad your opinion just happened to align with US gov, but not glad you bringing the ‘just call them conspiracy theorists’ psyop to anyone voicing a different one, plenty of these super safe and tested vaccines were withdrawn from administering to young males, conspiracy theorists kek, go enjoy your boosters, don’t overwork yourself
