C2 critical problem: "No valid os found"

Hello!

This is my first message on this forum, but I’ve been a Jolla user since 2013.

I’m writing now because my C2 stopped working over a month ago and I haven’t got any response from Jollas customer support:

On Christmas Eve when I tried to restart my C2 I got a message on the startup-screen: ”No valid os found”. Then the device shuts down, and the phone has been broken ever since. Prior to that I had been using my phone normally, so I have no idea what could have caused the problem.

I’m really not technically inclined when it comes to software, and I’ve understood that the C2 doesn’t have a working recovery mode. So I wonder if someone here on the forum somehow could help me get the phone running again? I’m located in southern Finland.

On a side note: Is Jollas customer support really this poor – like nonexistent? My C2 is completely bricked and they haven’t bothered to give any kind of answer in over 4 weeks. I understand that they probably are busy working on the upcoming phone but wouldn’t it make sense for them to also take care of their existing and loyal users?

Maybe try if phone gets recognized by fastboot (phone <> computer. to boot in fastboot mode you have to hold some key combination on boot. Usually vol-up or vol-down and power button).
If fastboot works you could try to reflash partitions with fastboot

C2 has a recovery mode enabled since 5.0.0.72 relesead on 11.11.2025.

As mive said, check if Fastboot is accessible on your C2 and if so, you can try to reinstall Sailfish OS. Instructions are not that complicated.

Thank you for the answers and suggestions.

I’ve read the excellent Fastboot flashing-thread, but it describes the procedure using a Linux-computer which I unfortunately don’t have access to. But maybe I need to get one at some point.

Nor do I have a Xperia phone which seems to be mandatory to be able to use the Windows-option.

In this thread I’ve also read that while the C2 now has a recovery mode it isn’t actually working.

Please read more about fastboot. You don’t need Linux explicitly. There are Live Linux distros booted from USB. It can also be done in Windows.

If you write about flashing Xperias there are more options also. Many of us did it in Linux too.

If you have 5.0.0.72 on your C2 and it was working a recovery mode should work. If your version is older but not very early one you can flash partialy.

But I do suspect hardware in your case.

Thank you, I was able to initiate the recovery mode :+1:
But then unfortionately the phone restarts and the “no valid os found”-message reappears.

Did I understand correctly that you are suspecting a hardware-problem?

You understood correctly. But you can try to reflash anyway.

forgive my somewhat naive suggestion, but since you live in Finland, wouldn’t it be possible to visit the Jollaboys directly!?

Yes it would :slightly_smiling_face: If I could only get some kind of responce from Jollas customer care then I could bring the C2 to Tampere myself.

You would do that? I wouldn’t, and I live in Uusimaa.

By now they really should be back from winter break. It saddens me that this happens. I can only hope you will get a better response now.

Well, preferably I would send it by mail

I also live in Uusimaa, but on the other hand it would be interesting to visit Jolla.

Lets hope I get an answer soon, I was not awere of their winter break :slightly_smiling_face:

They’ve been back from said winter break for several weeks now so I don’t know what the holdup is in your case
