Buy Xperia 10 III or other phone for Sailfish OS

Hello, I’m thinking about buying an Xperia 10 III. I would like to use Jolla Sailfish again. Can you still use the phone as a daily driver? How is the battery life? Are there other devices where Sailfish works well? Is it correct that the community ports do not have Android support? Thanks for your help

I guess that depends on your use of the device. For me, it works perfectly fine as a daily driver and it has been that case for three and a half years now.

Yes, this is correct. The community ports don’t have the official Jolla Android AppSupport.
HOWEVER, there is also Waydroid available to run Android apps, also on the community ports
(for installation, you can look here)

I need a phone that runs well. Everything I’ve read about the XP10III says it obviously causes fewer problems. And the IV and V probably won’t come. How about Waydroid? I use Graphene OS, as a normal user I don’t notice that my apps run in a sandbox. Do I always have to open the Waydroid app to run an APK?

If you’re more into android apps than sailfish apps, waydroid it’s not for you. Not really stable, needs more battery power, but works. If you like android apps, you need that AAS official Android App Support. This works as a daily in Xperia 10 iii.

I have both, Xperia10iii AAS and oneplus 6 Waydroid community port (very good one).

no, you can leave it open. But increases battery power much more. Better to turn it off then you don’t need it. Restart waydroid sometimes fails, so you need reboot or terminal stuff.

Forget about waydroid if you mostly use android apps.

Signal, Threema, Telegram, Fennec work. I can’t say anything about What’sApp or DB Navigator.

The 10 III is an excellent daily driver.

Do you think the Xperia10 III will continue to be supported? I haven’t figured it out yet with all the posts here. I buy a license for €24.99 and have full support. Or do I still have to pay the 4.99 a month?

For this, there is also an (unofficial) native app called Whisperfish

Notifications for WhatsApp will probably not work

For this, you could also use the native app “Fahrplan”

With Fahrplan or similar you can see train schedule but you can’t use the ticket online system to my awareness, that depends on google play services

Whatsapp works relatively well, I receive message notifications, but somehow it’s not so reliable for received calls.
Not really a problem for me, since I rarely receive calls and if that happens I call back once I get the missed call notification.
In general the 10 iii with AAS is still a good daily driver for me.

I don’t think they talked about Xperia 10 iii.

Maybe Xperia 10 (old without iii )
