Bluetooth audio in Android applications (Xperia 10 III, SFOS 5.0) no longer works

REPRODUCIBILITY: always
OS VERSION: 5.0.0.62
HARDWARE: Sony Xperia 10 III
UI LANGUAGE: English
REGRESSION: Looks like that

DESCRIPTION:

I can’t get Bluetooth headsets working in audio calls in Android applications (tried Nextcloud Talk, Element and Firefox (Nextcloud Talk)). I’m fairly certain at least some of these worked in the past to the point of being entirely usable. Only the speakerphone works, independently of what has been selected in the application (other options being phone and Bluetooth headset).

It seems there have been similar issues before:

The Bluetooth headset works in regular phone calls and when paying media.

PRECONDITIONS:

A Bluetooth headset

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Connect a Bluetooth headset.
  2. Start an audio call with an Android application (e.g. Element or Nextcloud Talk)
  3. Select the Bluetooth headset (if not yet selected).

EXPECTED RESULT:

Audio should be routed to the Bluetooth headset (or the selected destination).

ACTUAL RESULT:

Only the speakerphone works, independently of what is selected in audio settings.

Oh well, of course the 5.0.0.67 addressed this, partly. Now Bluetooth audio works but the audio source / sink cannot be selected. Bluetooth headset is active if it’s connected, otherwise it’ll be regular regular phone audio (i.e. no speakerphone). I think this is how it used to work in some earlier releases, too.

Nevertheless, it’d be great to be able to select which audio device is in use.
