Aurora store you could say that from there you can find your banking apps for example? It should be clear as you explained it well, but I don’t trust people’s understanding so much.
You could maybe add that Chum apps are built from sources so hiding malware would also be more difficult while openrepos.net (Storeman) can have binary only apps.
Also adding small screenshots/icons/graphics may make it look friendlier than just a wall of text.
I know it’s very alpha so not everything has been implemented yet, I just wanted to throw some ideas around.
Thanks! If you encounter any issues or anything that isn’t really clear to you as a newbie, feel free to tag me, I’ll add the solution to the guide so others don’t struggle with the same!
One thing I think would also be nice is having a section that explains a few popular Sailfish apps and/or Android apps along with their Sailfish equivalents.
I doubt most new users will intuitively know to look for Fernschreiber or Yottagram when they want to use Telegram, or search for Whisperfish when they are looking for Signal.
I am torn on this, but you might also consider not publishing your app on the Jolla Store (or create two apps?) until deliveries of the new phone begin, so that the app appears at the top of the “New apps” section.
Unless Jolla agrees to make it prominent in the store, it may otherwise end up buried under newer apps and disappear from view.
Looks good so far the splitting of different stores. Especially appreciate that you kept the instructions short. I was thinking maybe for Aurora store you could say that from there you can find your banking apps for example? It should be clear as you explained it well, but I don’t trust people’s understanding so much.
Also I was thinking, should or could there be direct link to most important apps from Jolla store? Where there could be list of good apps, like to my understanding Sailfish Utilities is important so you can restart different services without restarting whole phone. Also I have seen a lot of discussion about file management so that would be good one to explain also.
Here is short list what it could look like in the simplest form. Also it would be great if there would be information where the app can be get (Chum, Storeman, Github etc.)
Telegram → Yottagram (no video calls) or Fernschreiber (no audio or video calls)
Signal → Whisperfish
Reddit → Quickddit
Youtube → Microtube or Sailpipe
Bitwarden → Bitsailor
Any OTP application → SailOTP
AI chat app → SailorAI
Google maps / HereMaps → Pure maps and/or OSM scout
Bluesky / Mastodon → Multipos or Tooter
Matrix client → Sailftrix or Hydrogen
Now as I tried to look the native apps, I stumbled on this thread List of Android -> Sailfish OS applications. Probably not up to date perfectly but seemed as very good listing!
Imagine any vaguely commercial working like that; all companies would be spamming updates. Sheesh.
@Rikudou_Sennin
I did not check the app; but why must everything be an app nowadays?
Information is better on a wiki or web page.
Please don’t make us turn into android where everything is an app even if doesn’t actually provide any benefit.
What number getting started guide is this? Doesn’t lots of people already make them?
