hello, i noticed that, from when i installed Sailfish 5.1 the battery on my Xperia XA2 last much less than before, and i think i’m not the only one, as i red other people in various telegram groups experiencing the same
i get the phone is old but it’s surely an issue with 5.1 as battery was okeyish with 5.0.x
I had a sudden battery drain today.
I was offline, just did some pics and sent them by MMS, around 12:00.
Here is the battery consumtion chart (first graph):
.
Yeah, I also get comfort from the same prospect of a new Jolla phone withing a couple of weeks (I hope). My XA2 has been my daily driver for a long time and I was positively surprised it got an Android update in 5.0. It’s a bit sad it might end with this battery issue in what could well be the last SFOS release for this device.
I mean, this might sound a bit stupid, but isn’t the battery drain normal? I don’t really think it’s something that can be fixed. Even my iPhone 13 started draining battery faster after the iOS 26 update. The XA2 is a very old device, and I think it’s normal.
I wonder why it should drain more for the same functions.
Not to say that nothing changed, but I miss where it is computing more than before.
If this bigger drain exists, I’d rather think of a stuck process, loop, etc.
I see. So basically, you’re saying that the move to 5.1 wasn’t some evolutionary, game-changing update, and there’s no clear reason for the battery to drain faster. Yeah, that side of it exists too, actually. I don’t know, we need to look into it, or someone from the team involved in the update process could clarify the situation.
Well, as you might know apple has been fined already for these practices of limiting your battery on old devices
Althought apple justified by saying that they are forced to cause you can’t expect old phones to work like new ones so they were limiting them
Which, is even true in a way, but i doubt sailfish 5.1 is so powerful it drains so much battery compared to 5.0, so they should, imo, look into the problem and if this 5.1 is really that powerful they should at least give us an explanation, i guess
I have no differences in power comsumption on Jolla C2 with latest SailfishOS Version 5.1.0.11. At Flightmode the best i can get is -0.19%/h like before the update. Its not all night the same comsumption for me, because i use several apps over the day and leave demons running so that may vary my mileage.
Fast draining battery happens when programs/tasks/daemons/drivers crash or performing polling-loops all the time for some faulty reasons like faulty race conditions, using fixed timers instead of event-handlers, run in debugmode and write tons of logs…etc.
