It looks like the ABN Amro app has stopped working. A4 status for me.
I haven’t tried with MicroG.
(It does work on my GrapheneOS phone which has Google Play Services installed.)
I can’t understand why banks don’t let us use a standard TOTP, managed with an authenticator app or hardware device, and do banking through their web.
Some banks still rely on 2FA SMS (insecure and outlawed by EU). Whereas others are migrating to app-only solutions (pushing us into the Android/iOS duopoly).
Sounds like we should write to the EU. Now that it is trendy to get rid of American platforms, the EU should pass laws to enforce some openness. It’s really hard to do lots of things without giving your data to the FAANG hydra.
The two UK banking apps that I use on my Android device are Nationwide and Smile. These both work on IodéOS (which passes SafetyNet) but not on LineageOS for microG (where the app refuses to run, because it detects the phone is running a custom ROM).
Has anyone here tried - or is willing to try - running these on SfOS? They can be installed from Aurora Store. No need to have an account,
Thanks
@poetaster count me among the astounded…
A real bank should know that people using their software on privacy first (he he) not so tightly controlled platforms such as Sailfish does not advance the cause and instead provides the subject with a dedicated small form factor Android device running the latest version of the banking app that will in the near future also contain your programmable digital currency and biometric ID to verify .
Limited use of camera to scan documents/QR, must allow GPS & 5G always on, limited use call functionallity AI helpdesk… but for FREE, what’s not to like Demand more of YOUR bank!
I could install Smile App on Jolla C2 5.0.0.68 Tampella without problems. Another app I did not find.
Thanks
For some reason I can not find Nationwide Banking App from my Aurora Store
Do you have microG installed? Or any other Google apps?
That’s strange, but thanks for trying. My experience with these two apps suggests that if the Smile app works - which it seems to - then the Nationwide app will also work.
Thanks again
As of today the Dutch Rabobank app no longer works, status A4. Xperia 10 iii, no MicroG.
7.45.0 was the last working version which I held on to for a long time but they stopped allowing usage of this version, it has to be updated. Newer versions crash instantaneously.
I have MicroG and almost all Android apps needed for my daily usage. Couple of special apps do not work. Specially one Finnish app meant for bird identification and that is because I have not been able to get location to work in Android apps.
Another problem is described here Cannot select a seat on Vr matkalla app
I have spare Android and noticing the need to use that is reducing every day. The most critical is when you have to verify to Google your identity. That is not working with my Jolla C2.
I switched from X10Iii to C2 and I do not manage to get OP mobiili working. I did try echo “kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 0” > /etc/sysctl.d/91-opmobiili.conf, but still OP mobiili closes before login page. Any hints what to do? I’m running latest version of Sailfish, tried app versions 72, 74 and 75, and MicroG is installed.
I’ve been able to install the Nationwide app and get as far as the login screen without it complaining of a rooted device
Check the file /etc/sysctl.d/91-opmobiili.conf
in case the funky quotation marks have made it to the file and the phone can’t parse the contents properly. Also don’t forget to boot your phone after.
Thanks! Everything working now, I think I had not rebooted the device.
