Anyone has a spare Xperia phone?

I’m looking for an Xperia device to buy (10ii, 10iii, 10iv or 10v). My provider shuts down their 3G network by the end of the year, and since my XA2 does not support VoLTE I won’t be able to make calls anymore.

Unfortunately, my budget is very limited, I can offer ~100 Euro plus shipping costs. I’m aware that’s not much, but I’m giving it a try anyway because I don’t want to switch to another OS after staying true to Sailfish for 10+ years. I don’t care about the condition of the phone as long as it works.

In exchange, I can offer an old Jolla C, an Xperia X and/or my current Xperia XA2 if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

I’m wondering how feasible is it to keep a XA2 and use a SIP client like s1p. You may even give a try with Linphone

Not a native app, but for calling regular phone numbers over the Internet, Satellite works pretty well with AppSupport+microG. They even give you a free number and 100 minutes to talk per month:

I have a Xperia 10III in good conditions here which I would be willing to give away for 100€ at that moment when the Xperia 10V is supported in a way, it can be used as a daily driver. At the moment, I simply need this device as a spare device in the case I or my girlfriend have issues with our main devices.

Where are you located?

By the way, there are some Xperia 10III on ebay for around 180€ coming with free shipping.

I’ll try that on my XA2 for sure in some years, when 3G will be shut down in my country.

I have a 10III that sadly fell out of my pocket and was infested by spiders as a result:

Should you not be able to find anything better in time for the 3G network going down you can have it.

You should carefully research the “potential” VoLTE support for the next device and your provider. What the big table claims is often enough incorrect, likely because it does not talk about Android blob versions as well.

Whichever one you get, flash the latest Android with Emma before going to SFOS to increase your chances to get a half working VoLTE. But really if you live in a country with networks >=4G i would say SFOS is not for you anymore, if you care about a phone being a phone. I think VoLTE is likely still called “beta”, and the reasons are all over this forum.

I suggest going to a mobile phone repair shop and invest into a new display.

I don’t know in your country but in mine all operators shut 3g networks down, and my xa2 is using the 2g to make calls

It works quite good

Not the best solution, but for what it is, it works

Providers wanted to shut down also 2G, but everybody found out that has some legacy devices with SIM card that is part of some critical infrastructure and decided to keep the equipment. So 3g was slated and next will be 4g in few years.

The maintenance cost for the infrastructure (redundant) is not to be rectified. So we will use 2g and 5g or 6g.

I doubt that makes any economic sense for me (I have a 10, 10 II and 10 V here), but it might be an option for the original poster. I thought a free phone plus a display repair might still cost less than a new phone, depending on where that person is located.

Thanks to everybody for your offers, tips and support, I appreciate it very much! I was offered a 10V and will give that phone a try.

Since I use my Sailfish phone as a daily driver with no fallback solution I don’t want to experiment with a SIP client. The 2G network was shut down years ago, so unfortunately 4G is the only option I’ll have…

You noticed, that there are a few things (like camera) that are not working on 10V?

Nope, actually I wasn’t aware of that issue (and all the other issues the 10V seems to have)… I simply checked the official list of supported devices and did some research about VoLTE.

So, THANK YOU for your tip!!

I’ve bought a “spares & repair” Xperia 10 III from eBay that has a functioning display.
We will see how this will play out.
