Android Keyboard is stuck on numercal KB

UI LANGUAGE: German
REGRESSION: (compared to previous public release: Yes, No, ?): No

DESCRIPTION:

The OSK of android is limited to the numerical format (i.e. only numbers visible).

PRECONDITIONS:

No idea.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Start android app for example in my case Whatsapp
  2. Create a new message in some conversation

EXPECTED RESULT:

The alphanumeric keyboard shows up correctly

ACTUAL RESULT:

The numeric keyboard is displayed.
When pressing enter, some keyboard settings from android side is displayed

(option to enable some remote keyboard)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Blocker as it is non-recoverable without rebooting (restarting android service wont help)

I entered this command into Shellex, so I can execute it whenever needed, without CLI action or having it in mind.

It’s great that you have an effective workaround. Nevertheless I’ve created an internal report about this and tagged it here as tracked, since it would still be good to get to the underlying issue and address it.

I just got confirmation that this was fixed in 4.4.0, so I’ve changed the tag to “fixed”. If anyone experiences this again, please let us know.
