Alternative web browsers for Sailfish OS 4.5+

What sfos version are you on? Seems to be built only on 4.5.0.19+, but all arch’s covered (you could try to input 4.5.0.19 in chum and see if it appears, maybe will work, or was it something in .19 that made it possible to build/work, not sure)
Edit: you could always try to just grab the rpms directly from Show sailfishos:chum / angelfish - SailfishOS Open Build Service

I downgraded to 4.5.0.19 (selected an earlier version of the repository) and Angelfish Web Browser appeared.
Thank you!

That was strange. I’m on 4.5.0.24, and I have no problem finding Angelfish.

Maybe the wrong repository was set in chum?

Greetings from the future! Is the Angelfish project still active?

Last activity was 2024 October on the github, and it only shows up in Chum if you set the SFOS version to 4.6, but it works nicely once installed.

Is Angelfish based also on gecko engine? If so is it more up to date than native web browser?

No. Angelfish uses QtWebEngine which is based on Chromium/Blink.

Is there similar engine version system as with gecko engines? So is it up to date and even websites with cloudflare works without a problem?

From what I could gather, the Angelfish release on Chum uses QtWebEngine 5.15.14, which is based on Chromium 87.0.4280.144. This version of Chromium was released on January 8, 2021. So, it is not up to date at all. In fact, it is based on an even older browser version than Sailfish Browser, which is based on Firefox ESR 91.13.1. This version of Firefox was released on August 24, 2022. Some users reported 2 years ago that it was passing Cloudflare checks, but Cloudflare’s algorithms evolve quickly, and that may not be the case today; I haven’t checked. The best way to find out is to test for yourself.

Just my hint. From Android app support I use Via Browser. Never do any benchmark on it but it feels smoother even on XA2, but as far as I can remember it sucked on C2
