Activation of License on Sony Xperia 10 II Dualsim

Hello there,

I hope someone can perhaps help me.

I have bought a Sony Xperia 10 II Dualsim with Sailfish OS installed.

After testing a little bit I felt the need for Android applicationa (at least for the German Railway ticket application “ DB Navigator “).

I went to the Jolla store via the settings application (settings - accounts - Jolla - my extensions - Android AppSupport - activate extension).

I bought the license and got the confirmation mail, it is also shown in the online shop.

I have only this one Jolla account - used in shop and as login on the phone. I have rebooted, searched for updates, searched for “AppSupport” in the store (cannot be found).

I even tried to just install F-Droid, which fails.

Unfortunately I also get no answer from Jolla support for about three weeks now.

So I thought, perhaps someone here has an idea?

Best regards,

Lucas

If sailfish OS was pre-installed by the previous owner, maybe they installed a version without AppSupport.

I would suggest to flash the latest Android you can find (using emma), and then install sailfish again using the image you downloaded from the jolla store.

That way you will have the latest Android blobs (baseband etc.) and a fresh install of the “paid” version you purchased with jolla.

Nonsense. There is no such thing. AppSupport is just a software package to be installed like you would an app. The installation images (paid/unpaid) do not differ at all.

I am not quite sure about the path you chose to find AAS. So maybe you tried this already:

Open Jolla Store

It’s the first in my list.

Select Best Apps. You might see Android App Support already as in this screenshot.

If you cannot find it in the store, try to login with your account again after a reboot.

Thanjs for your replies.

I have purchased the phone with a fresh installation of Sailfish as it was from someone who takes the devices to replace Android by Sailfish and sell them afterwards.

As I understood the principles stated on the Sailfish/Jolla website Sailfish is only available in one single variant for a particular device and the extensions are only activated by buying the license - but present in the software from the beginning.

I guess the problem here is the activation process.

I think it is weird that the settings button “activate this extension” when clicking on the Android AppSupport entry in Accounts/My Extensions leads me to the shop website still (after having purchased the license).

In the Jolla store on the phone I again searched for “Android” but did not find it - still after deleting the Jolla account, rebooting and logging in again…

Some additional ideas?

This piece of UI is probably quite new - i had no idea it existed, and assume basically nobody has seen it.
I don’t believe the process of installing AAS has changed in any way, so i think it is safe to ignore.

Maybe try them for support then.

What do you see here:
https://account.jolla.com/devices

Is the device activated?
(Activation does not really have any manual steps, but just to see that it happened).

Just to be sure: is the license for the model you own?

Pretty sure there is only one type of (purchasable) license at the moment.

There is only one option when purchasing a license. That’s true.

In my account on the website there is a device registered - model is “xqau52”.

The IMEI seems to be the second one shown in info screen on the device (dual sim).

Could this be the problem?

Probably not.

In developer mode, in the terminal, what does ssu lr say?
Is there a aliendalvik repo?

If so, what does devel-su pkcon install aliendalvik result in?

Are you on a somewhat normal and recent version?

To recap:

  1. You purchased a license and are logged in to the Jolla account on your device (your device also shows in Jolla account UI)
  2. You rebooted your phone since the purchase
  3. You have tried to find AppSupport in the Jolla store with no success so far

Maybe some source wasn’t added properly or needs to be refreshed, maybe @vige @rainemak @pvuorela or someone else can help you.

If you are not afraid of developer mode (cli access to your phone) there are some files that you can also inspect.

Thr aliendalvik repository is present.

When trying devel-su pkcon install aliendalvik I get “Auth failed”.

I am not sure if this is due to wrong password I enter. I tried the password set as unlock code as well as the password I use for the user “normally” on my devices.

Also I tried the one for the Jolla account…

To answer the last question - I am not afraid of using the commandline…

That recap of steps is correct…

My version of Sailfish is

5.0.0.68 (Tampella)

In settings → accounts, did you try to logout and login again?
(with perhaps some reboots here and there)

Yes I did that.

I logged out, rebooted, logged in again, rebooted.

No success…

Maybe one of these commands: Sailfish OS Cheat Sheet | Sailfish OS Documentation

EDIT: probably not useful, see my next comment

There are more explanations here. Your account is not activated. Question is why it’s not.

Reading the documentation, they say to check for updates. Have you tried that?

Updating I tried, but it says that everything is at the latest version.

What I think is intetesting: I tried the command for checking the time as stated on the “Cheat Sheet”:

ssu up

Result:

WARNING: ssu.ini does not seem to be writable. Setting values might not work. Device is not registered, can’t update credentials.

Have you checked this: Setting up a Sailfish Phone | Sailfish OS Documentation ?

Ah, I think I may actually know what the “auth failed” thing is!

The password you must enter is a separate one just for the terminal, that you can find in Developer tools in Settings, at the top, just below Remote connection.

Press Clear, then type in a password (or generate one), then press Save. You can use this password for the aliendalvik installation command.

If that still doesn’t work, then really the only things left are to try reentering and double checking the password.
