Interesting comparison. It lacks Olvid though, and thatâs what I use for chatting with my loved ones. Works very well on SFOS.

I think the problem is not the video recommendation itself, but the fact that there is a picture of a table, that the reader cannot fully understand, and the only explanation is a link to a video. If the picture had been explained more, or had been omitted altogether (only a link to the video instead of the picture), there would be no problem.

Iâd say only a link too is problematic.
What makes this any better than the gazillion similar ones you can find yourself?

I may have worded my previous message a little too summed up, when I said âonly a linkâ. I meant, that you could have left out the picture and just put a link to the video, instead of having openings with just a link in them in the future.
But in any case, I would like to see a slightly longer introduction in the opening post than just one short sentence (whether there is an image/link or not).

Iâll add an eighth category: a cool name thatâs easy to pronounce and remember, so you donât need to jump through hoops convincing people to use it. Itâs worth 43 points if you score three ticks.
SMS: S is a very common sound in languages across the world, and it looks like a snake, which is very cool and also starts with an S, which looks like a snake, etc. One tick. Then M, another very common sound, very easy to pronounce. Two ticks. And whatâs that? Another S?! Three ticks! SMS is now at the top of the list.

SMS must be the worst communication method for privacy, probably right after email.
Itâs also heavily outdated in features, expensive to use outside of your country, and in many cases still costly to use within your country.
Multimedia (MMS) is getting shutdown throughout Europe, itâs still awful quality and it can get very expensive.
Thereâs a reason everyone jumped on the IM apps train 15+ years ago and the reason was that SMS/MMS sucked and they costed money.

Jinny, is it possible to make video calls with Olvid on Sailfish? I moved with my family from Telegram to Wire. That didnât work well, so we went to Threema (Libre). Chatting worked fine on Sailfish, but no video calls so far. However, video calling works on a Volla22, so for that purpose I carry two phones with me.
You can pay for Threema Libre directly at Threema, without a mediator.They give you a code with which you can use that app.
They skipped XMPP. Self-hosting + federation gives you more power than needing to trust some corpo. But self-hosting also needs to be accessible & not wastefulâsomething Matrix canât do with itâs expensive-to-host/run design.
The XMPP clients for Sailfish OS are unusable tho. I use Cheogram from F-Droid but it canât handle calls.
CORRECTION: the latest update I was able to place a call for about 60s until crash!

there are quite several telegram clients I think? not full feature though.
RooTelegram has full feature
Use snikket or monocles, both handle calls fine (video might have a weird tint, but aside that worked last time I tried), snikket is also super easy to set up selfhosting yourself on your landline, grab a dyndns entry and you have no excuse to not use it, e2e encrypted by default, video/audio calls working, just needs a native sfos client

Hard disagree. Canât find a single plan where sms are limited nowadays and the only one that can actually spy on you is your ISP, much better than some murrican org, they will need court order from your country to do the same
Edit: also lol at your assessment of email, email with pgp is still the best in terms of privacy and nothing else comes close, thatâs why you get shills claiming itâs âtoo hard/too old/âŚâ but never compromised, huh
Edit2: and frankly this is the problem with rando internet recommendations, if youâre gonna listen to some randos, just use whatever and youâll more or less have the same level of privacy/security as their best guess (unless they are pushing a honeypot, so maybe random coin toss will actually be better), unless the guy was ragebaiting with such shitty ranking for more views, then kudos
