I can’t call from the tel: url in a browser. (X10III, 4.4.0.72)
Phone app starts, but number doesn’t get dialled or passed over.

It looks it has been removed as I’m unable to save a shortcut to the App Grid. You only can save URL starting with http or https.

May I ask you to open a new bug report as it is slightly different as this one?

You can use the excellent Bugger! application.

So can you call a tel: url from the browser?

If not, then I would say that this bug was just a subset of tel: urls not working anywhere.
For me it appears quite similar: it prompts do I want to call, it does launch the phone, but it does not appear to pass the number or start the call.

The original bug report was that he could make a shortcut - but it didn’t work.

I hope that because of his expertise, @d.geelen is willing to pay attention to this. For which I express respect in advance!

I’m sorry, but I think you meant to tag someone else, I don’t know anything about this topic
