the initial version of this bug report was created using Bugger 0.9.9+git4

Just to double check (all though you marked that reproducibility is 100%), if you disable the do not disturb from the top menu, what happens? Does both of the icon disappear? When you enable again the do not disturb from the top menu settings does 2 icons re-appear?
Does reboot of the device do anything for this?

If you select 'Do not Disturb ’ mode using one button, the other changes colour and mimics it and vice-versa. If you remove the button using Settings / top menu, both disappear. If you reselect both reappear. Reboot makes no difference, I still have stereo buttons!

I tried restarting the home screen in settings/utilities to see if that would help and the second ‘Do not Disturb’ button has disappeared, but now I have two flashlight buttons instead.

Some config file or database must have got corrupted somehow maybe?

That info is stored here:

dconf read /desktop/lipstick-jolla-home/topmenu_shortcuts | tr , "\n"

See if that contains anything weird.

Well, this is what it contains, but I’m not capable of saying if what it contains is right, wrong, weird or otherwise …

I’ve just realized I had the same issue as you. I click on the setting button in the bottom right corner and “organize” item and deleted one “Flashlight”.

Yes, that works for me also. Thanks!

Still don’t understand why it happens though.

I discovered that I can see this bug on my X10 III too (I see two flashlights). Now let’s find how to reproduce it

Can’t seem to reproduce it, but it happened to me ones, when I enabled the Android support button in Patchmanager. Then one more time when enabling all my patchmanager patches after latest OS update (4.5.0.19).

Isn’t it funny - you think that you’re the only one who has a bug like this because nobody else has raised the issue, so you report it as a bug and other users then say ‘Me too!’

Well, I actually did mention it before, I just didn’t think it was a system bug at the moment.

@Steve_Everett @phklrz did you installed this patch: Project: android-support-button
I had installed on my case.

No, I have no patches installed at all on my phone. Vanilla SFOS only!

Managed to reproduce as well. However, I have no idea about the steps yet. Some findings.

  1. The shortcut that started breeding was enabled when this triggered – I’m not confident that it affects.
  2. DConf array (/desktop/lipstick-jolla-home/topmenu_shortcuts) did not contain duplicates
  3. Writing duplicate to the dconf key adds one more occurrence
  4. Removing duplicated value from the dconf kept duplicated shortcuts in the user interface

There’s one fix proposal in the pipeline already. I did a quick test with it and so far so good.

Well I can’t reproduce that - vanilla SFOS here too.
