It is and has always been free software, it’s just incredibly complex and so no one wants to work on it. The last time anyone did anything with telepathy-gabble or wocky was almost five years ago.
For what it’s worth, someone did actually bundle a bunch of fixes for XMPP, which you can install right now, and they make XMPP on Sailfish (or anything else that uses Telepathy as a back-end) much more reliable, but there’s no encryption…
If you looked at my last post, you would see that I have put this on the agenda at the next community meeting. Show up. I’ve done xmpp dev in the past and if more than 10 people use it, might put time in.
What you want to say with if more than 10 people use it?
Do you speak about kaidan?
I would use it if group chats are possible.
Kaidan is a big step forward from my point of view.
All the telepathy stuff is dead since years and the fastest results we’ll get if kaidan could be updated to the latest version in SFOS.
Maemo Leste uses Telepathy and improved it. I checked the Internet and it looks like they have a XMPP support, but it’s my supposition as I don’t use Maemo Leste.
As far as I know with telepathy no omemo, no group chats are possible at the actual stage.
1 to 1 chats are possible like in the times of n900…
The telepathy things are dead for years. Check the latest publications: Index of /releases
Currently, I would say that the only thing Kaidan is missing is support for MUC, which they plan to implement after finishing the implementation of calls and other features, according to comments in their XMPP chat Issue Boards · Development · Boards · Network / Kaidan · GitLab .
QXmpp, the library used by Kaidan, already seems to support MUC QXmpp: XMPP Extension Protocols , so if anyone is willing to step up and invest time in implementing it in SailKaidan or help Kaidan developers to implement it…
Just search for XMPP in the forum. One of last discussed is about encryption in XMPP. There are some info available. @mods: maybe it make sense to extract some infos to a general XMPP topic? Like wiki?
