DESCRIPTION:
On a Sony Xperia XA2 when the fingerprint sensor/reader is broken or unplugged from the device, battery drain increases dramatically.
I have XA2 on 5.0.0.68 (also happened on earlier versions) with the fingerprint sensor removed (because the device crashed on boot when it was connected, as it was broken.) I have no accurate metrics but the battery drains fully in about a day (9h?), even if sitting in a pocket idle (mobile network on).
Confirmed the drain by swapping the motherboard and battery to different phone shell (screen / buttons / usb aux board) with a working fingerprint sensor, the same battery lasts multiple times longer.
Disabling fingerprint services by:
- Adding disabled to
/vendor/etc/init/android.hardware.biometrics.fingerprint@2.1-service.sony.rc - masking sailfish-fpd with
systemctl mask sailfish-fpd.service
Does not prevent the excessive battery drain. (I had these disabled when the phone had the defective fingerprint sensor removed.)
PRECONDITIONS:
Sony XA2 with fingerprint reader broken or unplugged from the back cover.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
It is possible to test with on a device with working fingerprint sensor by removing the back cover and unplugging the sensor, but using the device to confirm the drain is tricky unless reassembled. However this power drain should also occur when idle.
EXPECTED RESULT:
Battery lasts atleast over a day.
ACTUAL RESULT:
Battery goes to empty on the end of the day.

Also this might be a low level firmware fault, and not possible to fix in the sailfish os portion? In any case I posted this to help diagnose if others have the same issue.
(Will order a sensor replacement for my original XA2 with the faulty sensor to confirm this further)
