XA2 erased after trying guest account. Any chance at recovery?

As the title says my phone completely erased itself after trying the quest account feature. Weird that this issue is still a thing as I found reports from 4 years ago after looking around for people having similar issues.

I don’t have any recent backups. I got the phone in recovery mode and see that the home directory is pretty much completely empty. Is there anything I can do? For example something like extundelete?

Thanks

I returned to Sailfish OS after nearly 7 months. I got too fed up with Android.

Just incase anyone runs into this same problem in the future, I followed the recovery and mounting SD card instructions at Recovery Mode | Sailfish OS Documentation.

I then tried running the ARM versions of testdisk and photorec but they were of limited use on the phone itself so what I ended up doing and would recommend to anyone else is using dd to image the full decrypted home partition (/dev/mapper/recover/ in this case) to a file on the MicroSD card. You can then analyze the image file on another computer with photorec. I was able to get most of my wiped data back this way.

I have no idea if this bug has been fixed yet (I surely hope so) but I’m never touching the guest account feature again. I’ve surely learned my lesson in regards to regular backups.

It should be fixed IIRC.
I don’t remember where exactly, probably on the fixed bugs list of a new release, but I read it was fixed.
