With all due respect: isn't the advancement of supported devices a bit slow? or maybe the priority is in the wrong place?

legacy device

I understand Jolla themselves coined that term, probably because we now have the C2, but imho that’s just a weird way of saying “not brand new”.

I said it before in this thread: people who think it has to be “not legacy”, but at the same time really want a proper Linux system, will always be in for suffering and frustration. Better to accept that Linux just works better on “not brand new” devices.

And again, second hand, likely diing relatively soon like my current 10 II. We already had that topic in this thread.

Then you are the first one with an unsolvable problem. You don’t want to spend money for a new phone. You don’t want a used one.

it’s not easy to find a new one from a reputable seller that also sends to your country.
used is out of question for me for battery/usb charging port/and other mistreatment of the phone(and personally also hygienic).

for anyone wondering and looking for one, there are still plenty on Ebay labeled as new,
but from sellers called “good-luck phones” “see-you-again” "fgstradingcom"and the sorts.
but it seems i have no choice but to go that way.

The solution is easy: fulfill the promises and sell full licenses for the 10 V.

And I do want to spend money on a new phone, but not for already antique hardware at the full price of a modern phone. And I already spend money for the 10 V while it was available at a reasonable price.

Besides that, it would be nice if Jolla could be more transparent. What is holding back the full license? Is Android support also tied to the binary blobs? Why are the new blobs not supported yet? What exactly is missing from the blobs? Is there a contact to Sony? Will the full support never happen and I should use Android for the first time? Can the community help somewhere?

I won’t. I did not make any promises. And the kind of money you want to spend on a phone is completely up to you.
Did anyone promise to you full SFOS support for your 10 V at a certain date? If you placed your bet on the wrong hardware or point in time, that’s again your problen.

And complaining without accepting solutions does not help.

It’s a problem that Jolla only can support out of market phones. Jolla should look into if they can join some vendor that can send development versions at an early stage so that Sailfish is available earlier. This is of course not possible with Sony Xperias as they more or less get them when they are finished.

Collaboration with Volla would be a good option here if they agreed to send them early development phones.

Maybe in …let’s say… Turkey?

Ah. Turkey… the famous phone designing hub, known to the whole world.

The same deal as famous Indian’s Intex phone, which became Jolla C.

PS The only good deal is to collaborate with some TW/CH company. That way they will have access to nitty-gritty details. And not be a second-class citizen.

This thread is getting silly now.

How do you know it will be dying relatively soon and what does relatively soon mean?
Second hand is not the same like refurbished.
Some shops which offer refurbished phones replace some parts like the battery with new ones by default regardless in how good shape the old ones are.
And buying second hand / refurbished is better for environment, too.

My point of view.

I already have written about it here but in short:

  • the battery cannot even reach a day of usage anymore
  • the USB connector is lose, I cannot think about using the device while charging without a falling usb cable. Sometimes it even happens while it just lies down in the night.
  • The GPS Fix does need longer and longer time every usage.
  • Generally it feels slower.

And a used device will have the same aging symptoms depending on the usage of the former owner, so I woukd need the next replacement sooner than with a new device.

Okay I understand the problems with your old phone but without telling us for how long you used it it’s hard to put your experience into context.
In my last reply I also asked you what you mean with “relatively soon”?

I’m using it since SailfishOS is available for it (about 3.5 years?), it replaced my XA2 which had similar aging problems at that time. And I cannot tell you any time when the device will become unusable.

But one major point is as already said the transparency of Jolla and how they set their priorities. Having Hardware support for the OS they sell that you can actually buy regularly should be the top priority. And they promised last year that the 10 IV and V are the next devices and now there is mostly silence about that topic.

I know the current situation about X10V and IV is frustrating. But they are definitelly not silent about that. The latest Community news contains the current situation.

Did I miss some community news? I just looked back: all community news from this year did not mention the 10 IV and V at all, just some answer after asking in the comments.

And all the time it is just “we are waiting for Sony and the vendor blobs”, no more detail. Is Sony actively working on this? Is there some timeframe by Sony? What exactly depends on these blobs? Just Camera/Fingerprint/Battery level? Is Android AppSupport not possible because of the blobs or is it a decision by Jolla? Why did the November blobs not change the situation at all? Would Camera be working with the camera2 efforts? How could the community help? Is it possible that these better blobs never appear?

AppSupport is a paid element, and can you imagine what kind of shitstorm would arise, if Jolla asked for money for extra features without even all the basic features of the phone working first?

Jolla could sell an APPSUPPORT licence and permit usage on experimental stage SFOS without any warranty. Jolla needs to be a little creative in licence policy.

And offer it to all SFOS-Ports would be a pro-move

Support for iOS or Android apps is also a basic feature nowadays. And the missing AppSupport is the most missing part on 10 V, the fingerprint reader is something I do not use on the 10 II either, for the battery there is a workaround app, just the missing camera would be tricky sometimes.
