Who can create VoLTE modem configurations?

My operator is not supported by X10III and the missing things seem surrounded by some secrecy.

Can anyone explain (for normies, ideally) :

  • are the operator’s VoLTE parameters secret?
  • are the modem interactions secret?

I mean, why can’t we have a text file with network parameters ending up in a data structure handed to the modem init?

It seems the process involves signing/encrypting/secrecy that puts things out of reach for Jolla/community.

Who’s blocking?

  • Sony/phone manufacturers?
  • Qualcomm/ modem manufacturer ?
  • Network Operator? (Free Mobile FR in my case)
  • State/Regulators?
  • All of them?

Thanks!

Your question is really relevant in my opinion. I’m not at all an expert on tge topic, but I summarised a while ago what I found about Qualcomm and VoLTE configuration files : Paid subscription to updates - #266 by dcaliste

Supposing that the same modem is used by different phone manufacturers and that some models are already supported by a given operator.

Could such a benevolent Operator create a mbn file without help from a hostile manufacturer ?

Or would it be possible to ‘borrow’ the mbn from another phone which uses the same modem chipset?

No, most have them listed on their support sites.

No, the blob / file that you download from Sony contains the modem / hardware interactions, it is hard to do something with them.

Here you go:

The network operators can block a phone, but other that that, not much blocking.

Mostly it is rather not implemented then blocked. There are different “standards” of Volte with a millions of possible configurations and carriers only used to provide configs for phones that they have in offer and not for all of them.
Have you tried VoLTE on the Xperia 10 II - filling in the gaps ?

This configurations are not Volte related. You are confusing two different matters.

Thanks for the link.
I knew the file from /usr/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/ of SFOS, but I thought it is relevant for pre-VoLTE/VoNR parameters.

So far I understand ( this post Paid subscription to updates - #26 by delocoyo from dcaliste) that the mbn files embed network and modem specific things (many, complicated and rather obscure).
