What is the current status of Sailfish OS in Xperia 10 V?

Hi. I’m thinking about replace my Xperia 10 III with a newer model. I’ve read about the calls bug in Xperia 10 IV, but I don’t find new information about how it works in Xperia 10 V.

Which features are missing in this model? Which are the main bugs currently?

I need the phone for calls, data and WiFi connection, Android Support for WhatsApp and banks apps, and GPS maps navigation.

I searched, but I only find info about Xperia 10 IV, instead Xperia 10 V

The information is that there simply is no final status on these devices - as they are not finalized.

yes, but I need more exact information. Can I make a call with this model? Can I use GPS? … There are AppSupport but, how it works with typical apps?

What part of “they are not finalized“ are you not comprehending?

They are really not ready for daily use and any current issue may very well be solved by a stable release.

I.e. going to deep in current status (which there is plenty of info on), is very near useless.

Calls work, although I’ve heard that you may need to use speaker mode (?). GPS works (though with the same delay issues as on other phones). AppSupport works with my banking apps, games and WhatsApp.

Some other things are that the cameras, fingerprint sensors, and headphone jack are broken, the microphone doesn’t work outside of native phone calls (so no WhatsApp voice calls), and that MS Exchange/text prediction are not currently functional. Also, for some reason, bluebinder drains battery very fast so you’ll want to disable/temporarily stop its service (you will lose bluetooth when it is off).

I’ve also noticed a problem where the phone gets gradually laggier and eventually hangs after about half an hour, but I don’t know more about why nor if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Hard resetting with vol up + power button works.

With all this being said, I would not recommend this port to the average user as it is indeed not finished. If you have patience, then yes, maybe you can try daily driving it for a bit.

That do you mean by speaker only calls? For me it also works as a normal phone… About the getting laggier: I experience the same problem, it is about a bad oom configuration. This happens if the memory is nearly full, killing some heavy app like the browser or some android apps gets the device in a performant state again.

I’ve heard that regular calls don’t work, but I haven’t been able to check that because I always use speaker mode. But I’ll edit the post to clarify.

I will also try to be more aggressive in closing apps and turning off AppSupport when not in use, but once the lagginess starts, it seems to be unrecoverable and always ends in the screen freezing

I understand your frustration with these types of question. But please, don’t just point to the “latest Community News”. One month from now the latest Community News will be a different posting.

An overview Table would be really helpful - maybe someone more dedicated and up to date could start a pinned tread with Tables of devices with features and there current state?

That would only make sense if there was gradual progress and rolling releases, which there so fare hasn’t been.

Well, it would make sense for one particular phone and latest release. And some optional exception remarks.

It would be useful for cross checking and general overview. Especially for the new users of that phone.

Then each user could decide if one shortcomming is an actual showstoper or just minor annoyance or even not a use case for that person.

That’s basically what known issues in the release notes already is.

True but a overview to send new people to and having a place for a quick check would be nice.

Why can’t we send them to the known issues of the release notes relevant at that moment?

If people really, really, really want some dedicated wiki-post for this, maybe Jolla’s AI could do it by reading the change logs and updating the dedicated post through API?

If we leave the task to the community, I’m sure, that the people who initially maintain the listing, will lose interest in it little by little, week by week, until no one maintains the listing anymore. Then it will be just one more “not up to date” -post amongst the others.

That would be a great demonstration of the AIs power - I like it!
Well, a lot of projects and custom ROMs have such pages with tables for devices and it’s easy to link to as the location will not change per release.

Finally, I bought a Xperia 10 V and I’ve just flashed Sailfish OS in it. Previously I updated the OEM Android until reach the latest Android 15 release.

I’ve got flashed it successfully following the Jolla instructions, with the blobs “SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android_14_5.4_v3a_zambezi.img”

About features, this is the result of my tests:

  • Phone and speaker seems work fine: I test with internal and the external speaker. I got listening with both without problems, even in hands-free mode during the calls
    • UPDATE: Microphone works in calls, both in hand-free and normal
  • I tested the speaker watching a video in YouTube, listening the audio without problems
  • Mail works fine, adding a Google and a MS 365 account without problem, with good syncronization
  • Android apps seems run fine: tested with Forkgram and WhatsApp.
    • But I don’t find MicroG in Jolla store
    • Aurora Store and FDroid works fine
  • GPS works fine, tested with Pure Maps
  • UPDATE: Bluetooth works with headphones (the audio is played from the wireless headphones instead the default speaker)
  • Doesn’t works: camera (black screen), fingerprint (even the enabling is not offered in settings), call recording (it’s not offered during the calls)
    • UPDATE: Microphone only works in calls, but not in recorder
    • UPDATE: bluetooth bug continues: if you disable bluetooth, you need to restart phone to reenable it
  • Pending to test: NFT

It’s easier to just read the release notes. But @attah already pointed that out.

Release notes mix the Xperia IV and Xperia V problems, and doesn’t provide all details (by example, tells than the calls only can be listening by external speaker, but in my test i checked that it’s not true), and about MS 365 doesn’t works, which is false too.

And the Android problems are minors for me.

So the release notes doesn’t explain all details for each model
