What are next steps after Jolla C2 and Jolla Mind2?

Hello!

I write this only because I would like to use a Sailfish phone in future - because I don’t want to be a merchandise for Google etc. I have to say as a customer I’m worried that how does this situation looks to me. Company published over year ago a smartphone (C2) which still has problems and company would like to plan already the next device. I’m sure Jolla’s employees are sure what they are planning and doing but for me, a common customer this looks like hurry rushing. I mean if we will see that next device I’m thinking it sure has many bugs and it won’t be ready, too. This also is kind of answer to question about the next generation of Jolla phone.

I admit that I don’t know and understand much. And I’m not trying to advise others that how things really should be done and I really don’t know the best. But I would like to tell some suggestions and wishes.

  1. I really hope Jolla would try to make Sailfish easier and more simple to reach users who don’t understand about coding. If I have to put my phone to factory reset I can’t do it anymore without computer. SailfishOS have to install on Sony phones and the only Sailfish-phone you can buy is still in the process. I’m sure there can be also much easier options to have a simple SF-device.

  2. I suggest Jolla would be more flexible and thankful for skillful SFOS users who can make things further many ways for SFOS. Like example some of users can install SFOS in tablet and in other devices and help others to do same. Jolla shall give some reward for them.

  3. I propose that every Sailfish device user would have an option to pay voluntarily, not only C2 users. And Jolla would give some benefits. Like example: 2e/month ~ premium member & 5e/month ~ supermember - or something like that… I know this is not that simple thing but it would be worth considering if there would be a way to make this work. Why I propose this? I think that users can have useful benefits and Jolla can have some money.

  4. I hope Jolla would support in some way also non-official SF-devices. I know that is not simple thing but would there be some way to indicate that it is good thing for company to have non-official SF-devices, too (Updates? Android support?).

I say again that I admit that I don’t know and understand much. And there are of course more little issues about SailfishOS but I think there is no need to mention them. However, I really hope that the most importantly Jolla would try to make steps to more simple and more clear everyday with SF-devices, no matter are they official SF-devices or not.

Last year on Jolla Love Day 2 it was revealed that there would be a subscription model where you’d be paying for a license. While paying for a subscription you’d receive OS updates and when not paying you could still use the phone as usual but would not receive OS updates (anymore). So there’s that option for financing Jolla’s future.

Here’s the Jolla Love Day 2’s recording timestamped to the location where the subscription model is introduced https://www.youtube.com/live/1nEC3sVExAU?feature=shared&t=2315

Once again I’m annoyed that Jolla now calls the Xperias “legacy devices”. It fosters posts like this one.

Anyhow, a forum admin made a poll about what sort of device to support in the future, maybe read that?

I would recommend you watch the latest community event at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMAGgdn-JK0

They mentioned the potential for having a fee for AppSupport for unofficial devices such as the community ports.

The future for Mind2 was also discussed at length in the community event too.
