Hi everyone,

I’m starting to get excited now… I’ve been an SFO user for quite some time now, whether for tinkering or as my everyday device. (Currently the Xperia 10 III) I’ve had quite a few—especially the Ports Fp2 and the Volla Phone (1st) Fp4.

Or officially, the Xperia 10 and the 10 III.

And of course, the Jolla C2.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the pleasure of getting a Jolla (1st) Phone back then.

Now I have it and can’t wait to get my hands on it!! I’m in Batch 3 and have to watch as everyone else (Batches 1 and 2) gets to show it off before me ;-(

I even treated my Xperia 10 iii to a new battery (it was slowly getting pretty bad…) so it’ll still be usable until the new Jolla Phone arrives…

Now it’s just a matter of waiting and hoping it happens soon…

Just wanted to get this off my chest.

geetings to you! I feel the same and so anxious to start using SFOS that I’ve been looking on ebay for a Xperia 10 iii just to flash it and start learning the OS to shake off the anxiety…:+1:

Hello, I think you shouldn’t make yourself unhappy, because your order range is still good compared to groups 1 and 2, and especially better compared to groups 4 and 5. You will have a special back cover. I’m in batch 4 as well, and I’m waiting impatiently.

I wish the product could reach us within a maximum of 2 months from the moment we bought it, but there’s nothing we can do. What I like the most is that the device we’re going to get has its own value, as well as the value we give to it. Lately, when I think about it, we’re actually not just buying a device; they make us feel something more than just a device.

Hello, of course, your concerns may increase a little before trying it yourself. It was somewhat like that for me as well. However, I am a daily Xperia 10 III user.

My Order is in batch 3 as well.

I’m new to SailfishOS, however I once was a happy user of an OnePlus6.
Since it was still laying around I have flashed it with SailfishOS 5.0.0.77 two weeks ago.
It is really well supported: camera, fingerprint, GPS, bluetooth, everyting works.

Unexpected though: I have to use the fingerprint reader 2 times, once to wake the phone up and then again to unlock.
Even waking up works only with registered fingers. So why not directly unlock once the finger got recognized?

I have ownKeepass set up as well as Whisperfish, Wireguard, my self hosted nextcloud is set up as account and that way I have all my contacts available on the phone as well as calendar entries.

E-mail and Calendar work as expected. Sometimes I wish for some text in the month view of Calendar to get a quick overview.

Nextcloud integration could be a bit better (I currently mount my nextcloud webdav volume manually most importantly for my keepass database and other file exchange)
However, all my notes are also on nextcloud. I have yet to find out if Notes could access them).

I played around with S1P and I was able to call my daily driver (Pixel7) (No sim card in the op6 yet, so no testing of VoLTE. On Android I use baresip, which is actually also developped in Finland)

I’ve set up internet radio in FlowPlayer: works just fine (a bit odd that the app shows the URLs instead of the station name in the selection).

For a while I was hoping for a new keyboard app. But then I found OKBoard and I have it set up also for German (that one needed manual unpacking of rpm because it’s called armv7hl.rpm instead of noarch.rpm and the op6 is aarch64). Now I’m quite happy with the keyboard.

After a some time of getting used to the user interface, I’m getting along with that also quite well.
I am not a fan of ‘back’ being located on the top edge which for me requires two hands to navigate, but if all Apple users can manage, so can I.
I’d love a ‘panel’ with info on mobile connection, wifi, time, battery, etc. But that has already been discussed elsewhere, too.
Switching between two apps (think of toggling to Wunderfitz and back) is not as easy as on Android, but once I realized that I can rearrange the apps in the running apps view it’s ok now.

The fact that PureMaps requires OSM Scout Server to support offline navigation was not obvious :wink:.

And the browser… well, discussed elsewhere too :slight_smile: I tried to install Angelfish, but that did not go smooth. I’ll give it another shot some time later.
But Browser works well enough to use e.g. HomeAssistant. Putting a link to the applications worked as expected.

I do have hopes for SFOS 5.1:

  • a better browser
  • maybe some more nextcloud integration?

I cannot use AAS yet on the op6. I have been following the discussion on passing bluetooth to AAS.
For me it would be even more important to pass NFC to AAS (for mobile payment) and I think I somewhere read that it might be possible. Unlikely for SFOS 5.1 though.

Some of this sounds a bit harsh, but it feels like that right now. Might be a matter of getting more used to…

I am batch #1 and it’s a long wait. My current pain points:

  • backup does not restore background and ringtones (why???)
  • email accounts sometimes need to be removed and re-inserted when they apparently block. I added a Microsoft account and it took 4 days blinking in this stage saying it’s synchronizing, then suddenly synchronized and now works well.
  • finally installed AAS; microG does not work (does not have the first 6 checkboxes checked). I hope for updated instructions that make it work.
  • no VoLTE for me on the 10iii. I really hope the J2 will solve that.

FYI, you don’t need to tap the icon in top corners. You can just swipe left :wink: It is just indicator that there is something when you swipe to that direction

You might want to take a look at My Backup by @slava . There is support for custom file backup (and restore) integrated to SFOS backup.

Hello, the expression “iki kuruşluk fikrim” sounded a bit odd to me. In my opinion, every idea is valuable; no idea is cheap. I often hear similar expressions on this forum, but I believe it shouldn’t be phrased that way. Ideas and experiences should be brought forward so that progress can be made and problems can come to light.

Regarding what you wrote in the article about PureMaps, I had correspondence with someone involved in PureMaps development. They mentioned that Qt6 is coming and that it will be more optimized. I’m confident they are already aware of the existing issues, and I believe it will become even more optimized once Qt6 is implemented. I hope the PureMaps application becomes even more useful; I use it extensively in my daily life.

If I were to complain a little, I could complain about the Android side a bit, just like you. Sometimes it goes crazy. Android support is kind of like that too. I guess Android support can only be optimized this much at most; I don’t really have much technical knowledge on that side. But on the Xperia 10 III, Android notifications arrive very late. I feel like they mostly come in when I unlock the phone and start using it. Also, sometimes when I open certain apps I use on Android, like sports apps, Android support goes crazy, and having to turn it off and on becomes incredibly annoying.

That’s fair, I didn’t check Ebay prices.

I can only comment on my experience with the seller, he was very friendly and helpful and the phone arrived in like new condition. It also came pre-installed with SfOS (free version), so upgrading to a paid AAS supported version was easy. The site also offers other phones with non Android/iOS operating systems… heck he even has a screen protector and replacement battery for the original Jolla phone!

Also, he is located in Europe, which might be a positive for some in these turbulent times.

However, I understand the need to save money where necessary. Personally, I’ve moved on from Ebay so didn’t really consider it an option. I’m much more pro-China then I use to be, but would still try and purchase from somewhere else if the option is available.

Hi, also a batch 3 user here.
I currently use an iPhone 12 with an aging battery, but hoping it lasts until batch 3 ships.
This will be my first time actually switching to a different mobile OS, while I’ve used Android in the past for setting up work devices, I’m simply not a fan of it, or the forks of it being just android, so Sailfish is the solution.
As well as that, I don’t want to rely on big tech from America too, especially with the current administration.

More importantly, I will be walking in kinda blind although the main thing for me was that my banking app works with SFOS and it seems so.

I’ve had to withstand without SFOS for 9 months now - a torture :grimacing:

Yeah, i’m looking forward to put my hands on this new device, and i’m spending the waiting trying to figure out what are the applications that i can use then on the new phone (i hope to be able to use jolla as primary phone, demoting android to a secondary phone, only for the apps that don’t work with it).

Meanwhile I started to look on how to develop jolla apps, but I think that the SDK, and all the development workflow should receive a revamp, and make development easier.
