Volume buttons do nothing while screen is off

DESCRIPTION:

When screen is off, the volume cannot be changed with the volume up / down buttons.

PRECONDITIONS:

Screen off

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Start media player
  2. Shut screen off
  3. Try to change volume with hardware buttons

EXPECTED RESULT:

Volume changed

ACTUAL RESULT:

No change in volume

I love it that way, you don’t accidentally change volume and wont burst your ears while phone is pocketed…
It’s a feature and has always been so.

I too have noticed it, but it only fails about 70% of the time for me. Sometimes it works as it should.
This bug has been there a looong time, and over many phones. I keep thinking to report it, but never quite get around to it. But thank you for reporting, i really hope it gets fixed.

There is already protection against that, by means of the volume limiter.

I don’t believe this to be accurate.

As an addition, notably my Xperia 10 II has not had this issue that i can recall.
Noted this specifically yesterday, and tested again just now.

Some further testing has shown that @attah is correct, it is probably about 70% of the time that the problem shows up (at least on Xperia 10II).
I must admit that I cannot remember having seen the problem before 4.1, but that may be a coincidence.
