VoLTE and older devices (XA2, X10)

Starting a new topic as I don’t have right to move a post. Ping @SST_73

Good morning, I also refer to my request for XA2 VoLTE support. I had some email chats with my provider und Sony support here in Switzerland. Indeed VoLTE support depents on device support of the network operator. Means, there is no generic VoLTE profile even the device and the os is supporting VoLTE. At the end, using VoLTE depends on device support of the network operator, until there is no generic VoLTE profile or hack available. . (brave new world)

From my point of view, something went wrong during defining process of VoLTE standard.
What does it mean for Sailfish OS, in the long run? From my point of view, there is no official supported device for Sailfish OS, that also is supported by the mobile network operators. (f.e in Switzerland)
And as mentioned in my post regarding XA2 VoLTE, f.e. in Switzerland VoLTE is obligatory for doing phone calls from the begin of 2026.

I guess that means EOL for devices that don’t have VoLTE. The drop of support for XA2 series and 10 i was announced after version 5.1 anyways…

Nothing has been announced explicitly
But we’re getting off-topic.

not THAT explicit, that’s true. But seeing my XA2 Ultra falling apart slowly, I will need a new device soon. Hope the C3 materialises in time

Pff, forget ist, it was never and will never be on the on the agenda of Jolla to really support older devices…

Isn’t 7 years of support enough?

You mean surely J2/Jolla 2/Jollaphone 2.

no, I mean this https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/next-gen-jolla-phone/23882/931

I know that thread and have posted there as well in the past. Jolla referred to it as the “next-gen Jolla Phone,” so there won’t be a new Community Phone (C3), as I understand it. It wouldn’t make sense to release two Community Phones one after the other, so it must be the Jolla Phone 2 (for end users) and not a third version of the Community Phone (for developers).

I’ll probably take it whatever Jolla will call it in their infinite marketing wisdom

Or install LineageOS for microG. VoLTE does work for XA2 pioneer and Xperia 10 kirin. It’s not SfOS, but it does work, and is likely to continue working for some time. It’s now at lineage-23.0 / Android 16. So no need to buy a new device

Can confirm that my Xperia 10, purchased in 2020 with stock Android, had VoLTE option selectable before flashing with SFOS. So, the hardware is able to do it.
