Using an External GPS Receiver with XA2?

There has been a years long bug whereby the GPS doesn’t work correctly on the XA2 when using Sailfish OS.

Has there been any research in using an external USB/Bluetooth receiver with Sailfish OS?

Has anyone investigated using an external GPS receiver instead?

I’m using a Qstarz BT-Q1000XT in case A-GPS is not available due to lack of coverage. It’s a lot easier now than it was when I started using it.

As an update I compiled a little description of how I integrated it.
