Hey, my provider switched his network to 5G. As i am using a Xperia 10II which is not 5G compatible, the device downgrades. The first moments with 5G, i had no interrnet at all, the next day in my village (4500 people) i only had telephone network. Working in a nearby middle town of 20.000 people i had 4G, but only on Android Support, the sailfish browser and mailclient get no internet at all. Is anyone else experiencing such behaviour? Or is it just my constellation a small village, my provider using Vodafone network or my not that recent anymore device. I am actually quite a fan of SFOS but this is a big regression…
Sony Xperia 10 II
SFOS 5.0.0.67
Provider:Vodafone Germany
Thanks for your reply! Yes i already restarted! Which configuration are you using? Prefer 4G? Prefer 3G? The thing is my gilfriend has the same provider a 5G compatible Android device and is also experiecing bad connection. What makes me wonder is the bad connection under SFOS. Its practically impossible to use with mobile data. So maybe its really my region…
I selected “prefer 4 G”. I think 5G is not for now an advantage at all for smartphones. Same experience with ubuntu touch on Fairphone 4 and oneplus nord n 10 5G.
But it shouldn’t make your Xperia 10ii to not work with native browser and mobile network.
Your phone is still a good one. There must be something else. Not the Vodafone 5G thing.
No they didn’t - they added 5G alongside everything else.
What’s more it is probably only “NSA” 5G which just adds some 5G capacity, but the phone actually uses 4G as an anchor.
If this breaks stuff they messed something up bad.
You shouldn’t blame SFOS, or even 5G if you have problems - blame your operator.
I am also using Vodafone Germany with my 10 III. 4G coverage seems to be everywhere with a few rural spots falling back to 2.5 G or no net at all.
There is 5G sometimes but it eats your battery and GPS accuracy decreases dramatically. Has anyone any idea why there is a reproducable effect of 5G on GPS accuracy?
But only god and a few engineirs know what’s going on inside of a location chip. It could be searching for location by other means beside GPS. So it doesn’t mean that my statement is wrong.
Of course there is a slight chance that because of sloppy HW design some band of 5G does influence GPS significantly. IMO not very likely.
You can maybe use CSD tool to verify if 5G decrease GPS level signal. That might give some details what really is going on.
So today i was in the biggest city in my region 180.000 people. And yes the internet was working normal. Maybe you are right with the messed up network, as we already had one week no network at alldue to a fire or damage. And in general the reception is not that good, but never had D1 the best network of Deutsche Telekom
So apparently i found the problem, when i changed the simcard and didn’t have no internet i changed settings, and instead of the dual mode at APN i chose IPV6 because i somehow related it to 5G. Now i changed the settings back to dual mode, and i have my mobile internet back, also with Android Apps, the mail client, sailfish os browser and so on. Because before it was a kind of weired behaviour, some apps and services had internet others not. And even in sight of the cell phone tower i had no internet. Thanks for everybody who tried to help me
